need quick help please!

i called auto zone because i need new pads and rotors for my 92 4wd red cab short box danger.

everything was going good, the prices were looking good and all. then he asks me if i have the 3.45 gears up front. i was baffled. the only choices on his magical computer were 3.45 or not 3.45.

all the places on the internet i shopped around on didnt have anything like that?

so.. if you guys could,

1. does it matter what gears i have up front or not?
2. how do i find out what gears i have.

never heard of gears determining what brake parts are needed. find the sticker in the driver's door and go to the Tech Library forum and it will translate the numbers and tell you what you have. there should also be a tag on the rear axle giving the gears. (it will be the same for both front and rear gear sets.) good luck!

ask for pads for a '92 explorer and youll get the right ones...

^^^ Not necessarily. That's assuming he has a D35. Maybe has the 28, you never know with those trucks.

Gearing doesn't matter. The AutoZone guy is just being an AutoZone guy....stupid.

Have the moron compare part numbers between the "non-3.45" and the "3.45". They will be the same.

The 3.45 ratio denotes the use of the dana28, and or depending on year the hybrid abortion d28/d35 hybrid.

The smaller motor trucks got the d28 stuff for the most part.

Makes me think the OP is going to have the d28 "3.45" ratio.

Umm..there was no D28 in a ranger after 1989/1990.

As stated just as for a 91 or 92 explorer..you will get the right stuff.

Oh and the hybrid diffs were only in the 93-97 trucks.

so final ruling guys? maybe ill call oreilleys or bumper to bumper and see if they have the gearing options. ive had far better expierience with them in the past..

The counter guys a idiot. (which is normal btw do not expect intelligent counter people) The gear ratio has zero effect on what pad you are buying.

So if he asks if its a 3.45 or a 4.10 it makes no "diff". (hahahaha ok I know that was bad)

Correct me if im wrong but even if he has a d28/35 hybrid, wouldn't the spindles be the same and inreturn the brakes ect all be the same? I always say the autoparts counter guys are there for the fact that they could never make it wrenching on anything, man some of those goons are so stupid i question if they even know how to put oil in a vehicle. lol

i went to oreilleys and they had the same options.. one of the two rotors were 2 and a half inches taller... i got the smaller of the two. the guy said all i had to do was exchange them if they were the wrong size. no biggy i guess. i love driving around, haha. thanks for the effort guys. love the site.
