What's a good price for 97 Ranger 4x2

I seen a 97 Ranger 4x2 on Craigslist that has 135,000 miles, 2.3 Liter engine, 5 speed tranny, CD stereo, with new brakes, rear tires, and is advertised not to have any rust or dents, anywhere..

They're asking $2,000.00, and said they'll take $1,850.00 for it..

I was wondering if anyone knows if that's a very good deal or not, and what something like this would, usually, sell for??

What kind of gas mileage do you think a Ranger like this is suppose to get??

Mine is like that but V6 and I get like 18mpg. So you can expect more than that.

I bought my 97 with crap tires, no CD, lots of dents/holes (oddly, no rust) for $700. I then had to but a new engine into it (cost me around $2,000 all said and done). Keeping that in mind, yeah the price sounds good man.

I have a 95 2x4 that I picked up for $1800 with no dents and a brand new clutch and timing belt. 108k miles.


On a good day I can crank out 30mpg highway.


This past winter though, 90% of my driving has been starting my truck, letting it warm up for 5-10 minutes (To get the cab toasty) then driving 10 minutes to the girlfriend's house. Then the same deal on the way home.


I still get 19mpg doing that.

I think the lower price is too high by half.

I think it's worth $1200

Of course by the standards of many here I'm an old fart and have a distorted sense of monetary values.

Depending on where you are located and the actual shape of the truck, I'd say it's a little on the high side. As far as MPG, it'll do pretty good as long as the standard maintenance is up to snuff and you can keep your foot out of it.

Really depends on location, but where I live, that'd be a good price for a truck around that year that doesn't need any work. But that's a fairly rural area with a population that highly values its pickup trucks.

See if the will go down the extra 50 bucks. If not, its still a good deal. I'd buy it.
