the one thing i like about the tacomas is the larger back seat, i would kill if they would just add about 4in to the back cab of a ranger, just enough the make it so you can have a bench back there...the old jump seats are out of style

i bought an 86 4x4 with a 2.9 auto last October for $400 and fixed it up for my daughter. It had a bench seat in it which I didn't like because the shifters are on the floor so I put 04 Ranger buckets in it and built a console. I am still working out all of the bugs in it because the maintenance was not kept up on it, but it does start pretty good now. It either has 105,000 or 205,000. Once I get all the little things taken care of, I do not expect to have any problems with it. So if I had a choice between toyota and ranger, it would definitely be a ranger.

Sorry but I'd rather have my bedsides and tailgate rust out rather than my frame. Oh yea, my dad's 2000 tundra has given him nothing but trouble.

What'd he expect when he bought. He should check his brakes and make sure they work VERY well, then drive slow as possible to the ford dealer, trying not to go flying into a ravine on the way, and trade that huge pile of japanese monkey nuts in on a new ford!

I vote we just have a perminate sticky for the toyota vs Ranger argument... which won't do any good anyway because I think we have gone through just about every point there is in the argument... I think the answer you are looking for is actually a question that you have to answerr for yourself... What do YOU want? They both have ups and down and if both maintained properly will last just as long if not longer then a helluva lot of other vehicles.

i can honestly say that i will NEVER buy a toyota...i think i would rather walk. Especially in used vehicles you can save half the money and get a truck thats in just as good shape with way less miles. Its crazy i've seen 200,000+ mile toyotas that are newer and they are still asking 8-9 grand...no thanks.

another ranger owner here... i have a 93 ranger XLT 4x4, 4.0L OHV 5 speed extended cab.. i love my truck, its got 264,000kms on it and still runs strong.. the only thing that i've had to replace is a starter and slave cylinder, the water pump gasket is gone too i think so i gotta replace that...

i have the 3.73 gears 8.8 with limited slip rear end. i got the electronic push button 4wd im not a fan of it but it works, i would rather have a manual shift t-case but you wont find any of them from 93-present from the factory.

my truck has never left my stranded on the road.. or even offroad. they only time i got it towed was because my radiator was caked in mud and the truck was overheating badly so i called BCAA and they came and picked it up and gave it a ride home. pulled the rad washed the **** outta it and its fine.. there's always the maintenance shit too.. my rear leafs springs are sagging but thats because they are getting worn..

the fuel mileage sucks but its a 4wd truck not a smart car haha..

so my 2 cents on your decision would be to get a ranger... also if you need some more info head over to ranger-forums.com. im also on there too, same username.

i have no experience with the taco's.. im not a fan of yota and most likely will not own one.

Here's the biggest problem with the Tacomas, seems toyoder couldn't even figure out how get a frame to last 15 years...

my truck is way older than those and as you can see my frame is clean and rust free. just because you throw two pics of a certian companys trucks. ok im here to tell you from what i have read and seen when you live in the rust belt and you dont take the time to clean the salt and road grime so after years of salt sitting on the frame it will do some damage to anytype of metal. so before you start bashing a truck just because of a couple of idiots dont take care of their trucks. dont be mad that toyotas are better than rangers hahahaha JK!! but really like said before me they both have their pros and cons some trucks fits different people better. and toyotas are just like everyother truck some people have get great trucks and others dont get so lucky my first Ford was the biggest POS around after 4grand for a motor rebuilf after my HGs went out cause of Ford's head gasket problem and about 6months after that i had to drop about 2grand on a transmission rebuild because the P/O dogged the ever livin pee out of it and i swore id never buy another one till my dad sold my old yota out from under me and bought me my ranger i have now. and to show how much you know about the second pics is of a tundra not a tacoma

I knew it was a tundra. It doesn't make any difference. The fact of the matter is that the toyota trucks have poorly designed frames that rust through when Ford's don't, salt or no salt.

I have 3 Ford trucks that are at least twice as old as either of those toyotas and have spent their entire lives up here in the salt. They have the holes in the fenders to prove it. But the frames are unaffected, because Ford, unlike toyota, actually knows how to design a frame.

I like the taco trucks. However, I've had rangers. Both of which had 200k+ miles of neglect. Both 4x4's. 3.0 and a 4.0. My current truck has 230k miles on it. Needs a cam synchro in it, and a few oil leaks fixed. Otherwise it's solid. It may be beat up, but at 15 years old, it doesn't have a lick of rust on it. I changed the fuel filter, and it had mud coming out of it when I changed it. I had been driving it for a while before I changed it. The only thing is the 4.0 OHV builds up alot of carbon. A intake fuel flush (bg kits work good), to flush the intake and injectors.
