Center Console Build

I have a question Hazmat. I checked out us composite's website. I see they offer a 2 part foam type stuff that can be glassed right over with out melting. Do you think it would be possible to use that stuff to make a mold? I was thinking maybe you could use that and just shape it, hit it with a gelcoat, and glass over it. I thought I would just ask, you are the pro when it comes to making those sweet one off parts. Thanks again for all the great info.

I have never used the 2 part foams, I have seen articles about them and they seem to be very flexible in their use. If they are not affected by the resin, then I say go for it. Make a plug of the foam, glass a layer over it, sand it out smooth, gelcoat and polish that out then make your mold from that plug. Then back to gelcoat and glassing the mold . . . no problem right - LOL.

so you are saying to make the exact size of your console... 'glass it once, smooth, buff and polish it smooth then make a inverted mold from that using....???? what would be strong enough? plaster would have stupid amounts of shrinkage wouldn't it?

I may have missed somewhere in this thread but if you haven't got a shift boot yet. You might check out stuffforyourranger.com. You can pick your color of leather and stiching. Nice work on the console. I've all ready done my sub enclosure, I'm working on my console design.

Thanks Coffee - I will have to check that out . . .

You would make your mold using fiberglass and reinforce it with 3/4 - 1" rope glassed onto the outside. Keeps the mold from flexing or changing in any way from the original shape.

These links show mold making, not consoles, but they give you the basic steps.

Hazmat, again, KUDOS on the custom glass/composite creations! :icon_thumby::pray::pray:

I *did* read this whole thread first, so if I missed it, Fook Mi, but I GOTTA ask: WHAT are the military-aircraft style covered safety switches low on the tranny hump for? KILLER look!

I wanna add some to mine, plus a few overhead, and I don't even have anything to connect to them! :icon_rofl:

Thank You Kindly . . .

The switches are for my lights: Lower driving lights and my Xenon Projector Auxillaries inside the headlight. That leaves one switch for future add-ons.

So, did you end up getting a leather shifter boot made?!
