Tire wears out more in the middle tread

I have a 2wd 1994 ranger with manual trans. My pitman arm is going bad so my front tire is wearing out more on the left inner side.

I noticed that the rear tires are wearing more on the middle tread then the other. I've seen tires wearing more on the outer and inner treads but haven't seen tires wearing more in the middle.

What may seem to be causing the rear tires to wear out more in the middle treads?

too much air in them. over inflation. do you check your pressure? theres a tag on the door frame somewhere that will tell you what pressure to have. on my 2000 its 30psi in the front 35 in the rear. try to check the pressure at least once a month. tires on average will loose a pound of pressure a month. but you would need to check your tires and get them to the correct pressure. hope that helps!

(really freekin board)

over inflation will wear the centers, under inflation will wear both edges and alignment will wear a single edge of a tire. i wont get into the tire cupping or feathering...

Which is wrong, because if you read the full side wall it will state to follow the vehicle manufacturers recommended tire pressure.

Your truck is most likely 30 psi.

hmm but he tire reads 40 max psi. Maybe 35 would be good?

My door jam says 30 front/30 rear. I am running 35frt and 32rr right now with the "winter weight" in the bed. during the summer I run 33 front and 30 rear. I know it has been said somewhere before, just make sure you rotate the heck out of the tires, so they wear evenly.

I check the pressure once a month, and rotate every other oil change I currently have about 40+k on my BFG A/Ts and they still have a lot of life left in them!

It's also in the owners manual.

You sure about that?

I don't believe they list tire pressure in the manual, because there are so many variables that can affect the recommended pressure for a particular Ranger.

*My '97 2wd, with 14" rims, says 35 psi on the door sticker. I run between 33 and 35 under "normal" loading conditions, and up to 38 if I'm loaded heavy.
