That pre runner sound..

What kind of exhaust are you guys running on your rangers to get that distinct pre runner sound?

prerunner sound? didn't know there was a distinct prerunner sound. I run a 40 series flowmaster that dumps under the rear of my cab, some of my buddies aren't running mufflers at all.

I'm running a 2 1/2" Purple Horney Glass Pack with 2 1/4" EMT as the tail pipe exiting in front of passenger side rear wheel i think it sounds pretty gnarly and so do most of my friends. It super loud to be driving in a car when i come up at full throttle beside somebody its louverred so it sounds wicked, i would get you a sound clip but its freaken -30 degrees Celsius outside so its too f'n cold!

That's exactly how mine is setup. I like the sound myself. Louder is faster

im running a magnaflow, 2-1/2"in and 3" out to the back, has a really nice sound, quiet when cruising, but when you punch it you know its not stock

I know on my 96, Im running 2 1/2 from cat back str8 pipe and love it. My neighbors hate it, so I love it more. on my 98 2.5 (more less the same motor, just bigger bore and auto trans) im running cherrybomb preform. muffler with 2 1/2pipe and its not to overwhelming. Nice preformance sound to it on and off the gas.

2.8 sounds like a v8

I have an 85 ranger with a 2.8 and my buddy cut off the cat and installed a magnaflow v-force 1 chamber exhaust. It has 4inch dump on the exhaust and this little 2.8 sounds like a v8 everyone tells me! It's pretty kool and I feel fortunate to not get pulled over yet!

Im running a straight pipe behind the cats dumping in front on rear tire. on my 3L and really keep thinking about getting a 40 classic. But the sound inside the cab is not so bad but when My wife takes my truck to work I can hear my truck for approx 3/8 mile while im still in bed.

I'm not exactly sure what you're meaning by the "prerunner" sound, but here is what my 4.0 sounds like.
