my underbody is excessively, and i mean this is a ton, oiled up. the truck leaked oil for years, possibly over 10 and it's all over EVERYTHING down there.

anybody know a spray or something that i can leave on and let it soak through? i want to clean up the underbody... when i had to replace my starter, or when i changed my oil/filter, you wouldn't believe how caked it was.

I have had good results just spraying the daylights out of the greasy item with ,"Simple Green" full strength letting it sit for awhile then doing it again and hoseing the daylights out of it. Maybe using a carwash and going for it?

You want to remove all that preservant? You know some people purposefully spray the undercarriage with used motor oil and things to prevent rust.

+1. The only thing I would add is to use a steel brush and the Simple Green on the stubborn spots.

My thoughts exactly...I paid over $100 to have my Zuki undercoated...and much more to have the Ranger cleaned up...

I have had success with those canned engine sprays though...just make sure the motor and tranny are hot...the cross members may need a bit of elbow grease and a paint scraper to get them clean though...mine had about an inch of crud built up before it was cleaned...but, amazingly, the metal under that was not rusted...even though there was no original coating on it...

well i support the simple green argument.. it totally depends on where you live. id never spray oil under my truck living in the desert.

simple green is bio degradable and will after soaking and after rinsing with water and repeating will get all that oil off.

im from michigan, so i think having oil under your truck isnt necessarily a bad thing? but gunk gel engine cleaner has always treated me good!

Simple green! if it will take 30 years worth of deisel residue off walls it will do that.

Simple Green and GUNK engine degreaser in the white and orange can. All you'll ever need.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else here - Simple Green and GUNK and lots of patience to let it soak.

I have just recently started using Simple Green. There's a reason why everyone here is recommending it - it works!
Simple Green, then a can of undercoat.

We just had a Ford dealership order 2 gallons of Simple Green from us a few hours ago, lol. GOOOD stuff =]

i'd rather have dedicated underbody protectant than nasty oil underneath there.

will the underbody protectant set up hard? i want to be able to work down there without getting extremely covered... i mean if the protectant scrapes/rubs off easy.. then i will probably still do it, but would rather have a semi hard set up.

I've never used Simple Green but I do use Purple Power and it works great.
