cleaning underbody

I recently used simple green to clean off some of the undercarriage before i sprayed on a rubber coating and it worked great. the black rubber coating protects the frame and looks great in the wheel wells.

thanks alot guys! will get to it soon hopefully... preferably before winter here, so it can be protected from all the salt and sand on our roads! i'll probably go with simple green, and i think 3m makes an underbody spray right?

I have used a few different kinds, and 3M is by far the best I have used. It's pricey, but well worth it. Some of the cheaper brands are ugly brown when they dry and don't adhere as well as 3M.

underbody is an important thing to take care of on a nearly 22 year old truck in the midwest... i'll go with 3m

thanks for all the help guys

1st step: clean with plenty of simply green... will probably jack up my truck to make it a bit easier.. need to pick up a pair of safety goggles and some gloves and plenty of shop rags... should i use shop rags with the simply green, or real wash clothes or something?

2nd step: spray with plain water to rinse away any leftover cleaner? any like adhesion promoter i can use?

3rd step: 3m underbody

4th step: anything else to help keep it on there/protect it?

i just sprayed it on, let it sit and then scrub it off with a brush or use paper towels. rinse and let dry. then just spray away

Got a link to the 3m product?

my underbody is excessively, and i mean this is a ton, oiled up. the truck leaked oil for years, possibly over 10 and it's all over EVERYTHING down there.

anybody know a spray or something that i can leave on and let it soak through? i want to clean up the underbody... when i had to replace my starter, or when i changed my oil/filter, you wouldn't believe how caked it was.

I clean everywhere my self except the undercarriage every couple months I hit a drive thru carwash and pay for the undercarriage

i need more than the average car wash. i'll try to take some pictures before i do it.. it's ridiculous.

Wow the price in that link is crazy low! If I'm reading it right, that's 6 cans for $30. I pay $9-$10 a pop buying them individually at the auto parts stores.

To do a nice thick coat on everything, 2 cans will be more than enough.
If you have never sprayed this stuff before, you might want to do a practice squirt on something. Yeah it's like a spray paint can, but this stuff shoots out real hard, and it's real thick. I find it's best to spray in short bursts and with quick strokes. You don't want to linger in one spot. You'll see what I mean.
