Old School 1986

I think the oil light is triggered by the oil pressure sensor...not sure if they had computers that checked mileage back then...I know my suzuki computer is connected with the speedo because when my cable broke the CEL light came on until I fixed the speedo cable...

Hmmm...water in fuel warning lights??? Never seen one of those before...and the EMISS has been replaced by the CEL...

Water in fuel IS for the Diesel.

Emiss had NOTHING to do with "Check engine", there is a "sensor", ford calls is "Infered Mileage sensor" that turns that light on every 40k miles (until you reset, unplug or remove it.
CEL is also called a MIL and is actually turned on by the computer, the "Emiss" light isn't.

The oil LEVEL light is turned on by a sensor in the oil panand it requires a special control module to work (it's a low voltage sensor)

the sensor is the large round "plug" with a wire that's screwed into the side of the oil pan.

Ah....that's why you're so highly respected around here...:)

I wonder if I could hook up the oil pan sensor...it's there, but the wires are not connected to anything because I'm using the original 2.0 wiring harness...

Same story: a trip to the salvage yard for more Ranger goodies. I made an excellent find today for $10:

Yes - it's the much-coveted "Electronic" AM/FM Stereo/Cassette. Since about 95% of the cars at this yard are missing their radios, I could have kissed the '85 Mercury Grand Marquis that yielded its radio (What a ride - a super-loaded dark gray/black vinyl top "LS" model with an incredibly plush dark-red velour interior. I would have loved to have seen this car when it was new and spiffy).

Anyway, the radio fit with no problems (same chassis size), but it had more wires than my truck (four speakers with an external "Premium Sound" knob vs. two speakers wired for my mono AM radio). But I was persistent and it works fine, although I have to figure out how to wire up an "always hot" wire to make the presets stick when the key is off. I haven't listened to cassettes for years but I found some old ones that played fine ("Synchronicity" by the Police still sounds OK).

Looks good better than factory radio, I gave up on my cassett unit and installed a aftermarket cd player i had to wire me up some rear speakers tho.

That's a beaut, especially for an '86. I still miss my '87, that I bought new. It had the same white exterior and blue vinyl interior. Good call on that, man.

nice.

the pedel hiss is likely the dump switch for cruise.

hey i was just wondering if you had any pics of your brothers old truck. i want to repaint mine and was really thinking about yellow.

and nice truck i hope to make mine look that good one day

That is a nice truck! You should take some pics of your other toys and post it in the NON RBV Toy Forum. I'd love to see your Mark V.:headbang:

loveing the ranger and the stang. both are very clean looking

You know, I don't. It was sort of a medium yellow, not metallic. But he only kept that truck until '86 or so when he "graduated" to a Chevy S10 Blazer. He did OK with that, though (but it was a 2.8 and grossly underpowered).

I checked my '86 Ranger brochure and it doesn't list yellow, so I guess it was gone by then.

I might have a photo of the old girl somewhere - I sold her in '92 or so. What a pig that car was, but it had the smoothest, quietest highway ride of any car I've ever owned. Total isolation from the road. And automatic A/C that would freeze your a@@ off!

It was that cream yellow color, with matching half-vinyl top, darker gold interior with velour seats (both 6-way power) and super-thick carpeting. I think it had the "cream and gold" option package.

It was a 460 4-barrel and moved out pretty well, but only got about 13 mpg tops - the highway was its element.

I consider the '77-'79 Mark V to be the most over the top car Lincoln ever built in terms of size, but it did have a certain presence, with crisply chiseled lines. Those cars will not be coming back!

I seem to have a thing for old radios. I got this sweet 8-track for the Mustang off of eBay.

I've installed it but haven't figured out the in-door speakers yet since they are a weird size and the aftermarket ones don't have the plastic water shield like the one original one I have does. If I install anything it will get ruined by any water the car encounters, so I've held off. Maybe some foam enclosure or something.

You could always go for boat speakers? I know they're made to tolerate alot of water. I have no idea if they sound any different.
