Whats the best battery?

I am in need of a new battery. I will also be adding a winch very soon and want to know what you guys would recommend as a good battery to use. Ive seen the Optima batterys but they are pricey. Any thing else on the market that works just as good? I just want a good battery that will hold up to the demands of the winch. Recommendations?

You won't find anything that works like an Optima for the price of an Exidy.

ProComp makes a battery similar to the Optima but it's just as pricey.

How serious are you going with the winch?

Like anything, the cheaper winch will work OK as long as you don't tax it heavily. If you winch a lot, you're better off spending the extra $$ and getting a Warn or Ramsey than a Harbor Freight Chinese Champ.

Same thing with the battery.

The $50 you save by getting something cheaper than an Optima will seem like $50 that should have been spent when you're axle deep and your battery can't pull you out.

My Ranger has an Autozone battery. My Jeep with the winch has the Optima.

Yeah kinda what I thought. Might just bite the bullet and get a optima. and I wont buy any winch that doesnt have a lifetime warranty. IE Warn/Ramsey. I also refuse to buy anything from harbor frieght that has moving parts!!!!!!!!!!!!

carquest makes a good battey, if i remember correctly they are made by a company called east penn and i believe they make the optima aswell

Sear's DieHard Platuim. Best dang battery that I have ever owned and tested. It even beats Opitima batteries hands down. And its backed by a 4yr free replacement warranty. So for $200, its well worth it. The 65 size that I have is rated at 930cca, 135min RC, and 75A-Hr. Also they are AGM, brass cell connectors, brass terminals with tin coat, and 99.99% pure lead.

They are made by EnerSys battery company.Same people that make the ArmaSafe battery for the Military.Should be a bad a$$ battery.

The DEKA AGM is hard to beat for the price,around $140 at a dealer.
Alot of people in this area are having trouble with Optima,going back for the third battery in less than 2 years.
Seems like they fell off a bit since being bought out by Johnson Control.

Yeah a family member has a walmart battery in his 72 bug. We have drained it many times and had to recharge it because of trying to start it when we tinker with the bug but for a 5 yrs old its help up in Arizona. But I run a napa battery.

My motorcraft battery lasted almost 6 years in this blistering heat... so I replaced it with another. Wasn't too expensive (guessing like $70) and has a 100 month warranty.

honestly, i would go with an Optima battery. I'm currently running a Red top battery in my ranger and when my other batteries in my diesel decide to take a crap, i will probably end up going with optima batts for it as well.

I just run whatever. I have wal-mart batteries in my wheelin rig and my Malibu, and a Diehard in my camper. My F150 has some shitty one from Pamida. I'm not really a fan of Motorcrap batteries since I killed the last one in less than a year.

My next battery for my Ranger will be an Optima, probably a yellow top. I will probably do that when I get a winch. Normal batteries are fine most of the time but I keep spilling water out of mine on the trail.

I have the same battery. I call them the poor man's odyssey cause its the exact same battery as their PC 1750 but its like almost $70 bucks cheaper. It also has a 10 year prorated warranty. its a way better battery than any optima i've owned (4 total) and I also highly recommend them.

I have a pair of redtop Optimas in my diesel pickup. In the winter they will crank amazingly long. And the best part, they have lasted since 2004 and are still just as strong. With my last batteries I would be lucky to get a whole winter out of them--the second winter the truck would have to spend the night on the charger. Between the glowplugs (which have battery-cable sized wire going to them) and turning over a big V8 with 21.3 compression and straight 30-weight oil, it's a massive job starting this thing in the winter. Optimas do it great and last a long, long time. There may be better batteries, but not in my experience.

I put a HD Walmart battery (the yellow one) in my B2 and turn it back in every two years and get a new one for like $20. That works fine for a medium sized gas motor that doesn't take a lot to start it up. Most winch pulls are pretty short.

the Yellow Wal-Mart batteries. they sell a big one thats 1000cca, its like 60 or 70 bucks, and wal-mart has good warranty, Friend returned one that had been run over and they took it and gave him a new one. That specific battery is just about as powerful as you're going to find and has good reserve on it.
