My opinion is that I disagree with you 100%. Sorry but those two just contributed too much to be banned for attacking a one post troll in my opinion!

I don't consider having 1000K plus posts of any of the following, "lol, wtf, awesome, this post is worthless without pics..etc" as a contribution.

Being as new as you are I don't expect you to understand how long and to what extent they push the envelope.

I really don't feel that they should have been banned either. It did appear that the two of them were singled out. There were others, perhaps even myself included (my post was deleted and I forgot what I had said) who said things that could have been perceived as being a smartass. I don't see why they couldn't have just got a warning, and have the offending posts deleted. On the other hand, I don't what kind of problems these guys have had in the past.

Lets face it, the mods can do whatever they want to do. Whether we agree or disagree on their decision to ban those guys, at least they had legitimate reasoning. I've seen a-hole mods on other forums who ban people over nothing, simply because the have the "power". The mods here are not power tripping pricks, so it's probably best just to let it go. And I thought I read that it was just a temporary ban for those guys, so they'll be back at some point anyway.

Exactly. Quick decisions need to be made, and not everyone is going to like them. A website of this size has the potential to get out of hand very fast. Personally, I don't see a problem. Break the rules, get the punishment, all at the discretion of those in charge.

I don't feel those 2 should be trash-talked either. Yeah, they broke the rules. now they are serving their punishment. case closed as far as the "general population" is concerned. They will be back when the ban is over

I've been here quite a while (since TRS was started or really close to it), so don't let the "join date" fool you. In all that time, I have never been warned or banned. follow the rules, and have a positive outlook.

Fact of the matter is, this forum is not a Democracy... The moderators were selected because they would do their job, and they do... How would you like being the one that had to do that all the time? I wouldn't... I'm on another forum that is moderated WAY more than this one is, nobody complains, because it keeps the BS posts out, it's good information and the mods keep it that way... It annoys me to no end when I look at a thread that has interested me that has new posts and there are 3 new posts that say "Dude, that's awesome, pics?"... Somebody needs to give a round of applause to all the mods... Thanks for doing your jobs and keeping this place nice, guys...

Really... we have a life... we don't have time to setup posts just so we can ban people, when in reality, all we have to do is ban them.

Most of the people banned have been in trouble before. They know the rules and choose to push the boundaries. The others, I am sure, got a warning.

There is no use of sticking up for 'friends' on the internet. All you do is make yourself look like a fool, because, after all, you don't know the history they may already have. Starting a thread...twice... does nothing but make you look worse.

to me, this is a tricky one.

on one hand, it could be a troll. it has the aftertaste of spam

on the other, it could be just someone not familiar with the internet. people that are "used to" the internet forget that others are experiencing it for the first time, every day. i guess i'm just old, since I didn't move from my momma's teat, straight to a keyboard and mouse.

for example, on "another forum", there is a member that has a clean, low mile, all original b2. guess what, he's in his 60's and the internet (especially forums) is all new stuff.

there's a good chance the OP may not know how to get back to this thread, or even this site. if he does, he'll probably leave for good, and that's unfortunate.

Ok for a real response I have to agree with this one the most. It could go either way.

I am the Wheels and Tires moderator. I was out of town for several days while all this was going on, and in fact if we go away and will be without access to the Internets, we make a post in the Moderator Forum (that the rest of you don't see) to let the other Mods and Admins know. All this happened and got cleaned up and put back before I got home.

All I see is what looks like a legit question from someone who drives a 2wd Ranger wondering what the quietest tire is who proceeds to get hammered by a bunch of 4wd guys who wonder why he shouldn't get Boggers. OP's second post was maybe a little smart-assed but I don't blame him for defending his reasoning a little bit. If I go to a new board and people shit on me right away, I'm not likely to go back either.

Just because someone asks what may look like a stupid question and they only have one or two posts doesn't make them a troll. Maybe they just don't know. At some point everyone was new here.

Had my own issues a while ago on a board for owners of the particular breed of dog I own. Populated mostly by Liberal womenfolk, the board and Mods took exception to my decidedly right-wing political views in the political forum and would delete my posts with no warning. I'd ask what I did wrong and they'd PM me a link to the Terms Of Service. I read the TOS carefully, still don't see where I broke any rules, ask again, and they'd tell me TOS, again without being specific about it. Didn't flame anybody or anything, just laid out some logic that they didn't want to deal with. Appeal to site owner, (I wasn't banned or suspended) simply asking what did I do wrong? Site owner simply tells me to take a hike if I don't like it, so I did. THAT is chicken shit. HERE is not chicken shit. If we ban or suspend someone, we'll tell them why. If they don't want to hear it, well, that's not my problem. At my job I often tell people things they don't want to hear and I'm to where it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Frankly this is why I personally do not swing the banhammer at TRS much at all.

No need to jump someone's case without reason. If there IS a reason, let a Mod or Admin know about it.

Well said except the entire internet idea is chicken shit by nature. Anonymity is a bitch. That's the number one problem for every board. People will say things with no regard.

Yes, this was a learning curve for me. I used to post about whatever i feel, now i have toned down considerably.

Now when I post, I try to follow 2 guidelines:

- Write my post as if i am speaking in a public place. (mostly) correct grammar, spaces in between ideas to break up monotony, and try not to be too long-winded

-Word my posts as if I am speaking to a group of my friends, with their wives and children close by.

Basically, i have realized that every post i make is in full view of over 10,000 people, their wives, children, and friends. plus, since 99.999% of you have never met me, I want to TRY and give an impression of at least average intelligence.



The OP made a second post? Dang, then he did see all this and probably wont be back. You never know who out there can bring new knowledge into our field......


oh yeah, and its not like a temp ban is the end of the world. we're not chopping off fingers or anything.
