New wave of cruise control switch recalls

I got the same recall about 6 months ago on the F-250, they put in what seems to be a 5' pigtail all bundled together with wire ties and a small fuse. Looks really messy to be honest.

The 99 ranger does not have cruise, will have to check into if it needs it.

Apparently the wiring was changed in 2003 Rangers. I think they are already fused. The jumper wire or new switch should work just fine in that truck though if you are concerned.

I guess I'll take a good look at the wireing when I'm in there cleaning out the mud this weekend and see if theres a fuse in there somewhere for it or if one is listed.

I just found out from a dealer here in So. Cal that the recall is not official until August 13th and the the parts are on National back order until around mid-October. They also suggested I wait until I receive a notice from Ford by mail.

The parts that are on national backorder are for the cars. They have a different switch than the trucks, so dealerships diddnt have the parts, but for the trucks, the parts were already distributed

awesome

I just bought a 2000 Ranger XLT this week, and I came across this thread when doing some research. I went to the local dealer yesterday and got the new switch put in in about half an hour.

You guys rock! Now my truck hopefully won't have any reason to catch on fire :)

Is there a way to eliminate the switch all together? I no longer have Cruise on my 2000, as I ripped it out. The truck isnt anywhere close to moveable to get it to a dealership. Does it affect anything else if I just took it out?

Just unplug the switch if you don't want to use it. There is no need to go any farther than that unless you want to remove the harness as well.

Where is this switch? I made the recall by two weeks, my truck was built 7/31/02 and the recall goes about two weeks past that... I would like to check mine and make sure it isn't leaking.

If the truck burns to the ground I've got insurance and can use the excuse to get another ranger- but if it happens in the garage and burns my house down I think I would get seriously pissed off about that. And if it happens when I'm asleep and I die in the fire, I would be seriously dead.

Edit- I figured out where it is, re-read some posts...
