Gen 1 Standard Cab Install

Well going to be putting my whole build thread here...

Sub:

100amp inline fuse:

Box dimensions: 13 inches tall, 4.5 inches top depth, 5.5 inches bottom depth, 30 inches wide. gives me around .8cf which is reccomended by manufacturer of sub.

yeah that looks right. when you do your install, disconnect the battery. when youve got everything installed, then install that fuse and reconnect the battery.

i was pretty sure i had it right... i mean there are only so many parts to the amp kit lol... didn't think i could mess it up but was just checking.


yes... should i take off neg, take of positive, install kit, install fuse, put on positive, put on negative?

ALWAYS pull the negative off first and make sure its the last to go on too.

final box dimensions done... everything is going to start coming together now.


started working on my wiring kit today (stripping ends to put on connectors and such)


had a hold up on my inline fuse (was a bit tricky)... but i now have that part done.

what kind of screws should i screw my fuse holder to the inside of my engine compartment with? does it matter?


anyway, next i need to find a hole to shove the wire through which could pose a problem being 4g wire... but wish me luck.


hopefully should be done in a couple of weeks... have to wait for my buddy to move so i can use his table saw to cut wood.



i guess i should make sure the box will fit... is it completely necessary to mock up a box in cardboard?

i know the measurements will fit.. but should I make sure using carboard?

some 1/4" sheet metal screws will be fine. you dont have to mock up the box with cardboard. as long as you left room for the excursion of the driver and the top mount depth, you should be fine. good luck

the driver shouldn't flex out past the protection ring should it?

just leave about a .5" from the highest point of the driver(which is probably going to be that beauty ring) and the back of the seat.

i will test it when i hook everything up, and put in some bass test songs, and put the seat back so there is still space for those...


regular songs should be okay then if it will fit bass test songs.








i've been thinking that i really want some more loudness.... i am thinking about adding some 6x9's in the back for filler and loudness. the thing is, i'm slowly running out of space... i need to figure out some measurements...

but my box is 30" wide. the amp if mounted vertically on the rear wall of my cab will take up another 8"... leaving only 12"... well if i put the 6x9's vertically as well it will work right? wait, forgot about the material of the 6x9 box... and the space i will need for the wires going to the amp... i just have heard that 6x9's give really good midbass response, and are very loud because they are large speakers.

do i decrease the width of my box and increase the depth a bit? so i can have space for 6x9's in the back? or do i go with smaller speakers? if i change the width to 25.5 inches, top depth of 5 inches, and bottom depth of 6.5 inches, i will have .808 cf interior.

25" from the box, 8" from the amp gives me 33" total. which would give me roughly 17" to play with... that would be plenty of room for two 7" wide boxes for the 6x9's to be mounted vertically, and then another 3" for the wires to my amp... does this work in anybody else's head, or am i just not thinking right?

use the sub, door speakers and get a nice pair or tweeters...
Should be plenty loud.
You added a sub for more bass.. now you need something to even it out a bit...
6x9s will do the job... but these rangers are tight on room for another pair of 6x9s

I had a pair of high ends from a place called magnolia hi fi around me...
Amazing sound and quality for the buck!
Got 3 years flawless sound before i ditched em becuase my car kept getting broken into...

no door speakers....

came stock with 4" dash speakers, and some rear speakers... never measured those though. tore the rear speakers out, as they were blown anyway.... the cone was not even there... ripped up in the bottom of the box. that is why i want 6x9's... for more volume and more midbass... the dash speakers i have now have decent bass handling, but not at loud volumes. so i want to have those handle upper midbass and louds, 6x9's for upper mids, mids, and upper lows... and the sub will be good for upper low, and middle low. hopefully sounds good enough too to work for low lows.

the dash speakers get some dynomat and take those speakers out line the inside where the speaker seats with dynomat or similiar material... that will help with louder volume situation...

I assumed you had some in your door... sorry bout that...

there is a little "shelf" behind my seats... there are/were two speakers in plastic boxes, mounted on metal brackets, then mounted to the interior of the cab... along with my tire iron and jack.

pretty sure they are stock, not sure my grandpa would have ever put them in... and he's been the only owner besides myself.

no need to be sorry about the door speakers... i've considered putting some in, but have been told that it's a PITB to run wires to the doors. i really wanted to make use of the "vents" there though.
