I have a 2.5 auto tranny. I never pay enough attention but today i noticed it shifting at 5000rpm. It might have done this since I've owned it. I need to pay better attention. Is this normal shifting for the 4 banger auto?

it shifts smooth Im thinking that im just paranoid. but still want an opinion

Every gear?
feel any slippage?

any shudder, or hesitation between gears?

Frank

Every time, or just when accelerating at WOT?

How many miles on tranny?

When was the tranny fluid last replaced?

Is it low on tranny fluid?

114600 on tranny. I will check fluid. not low at all!

Wait, so you granny drive and your transmission ALWAYS shifts at 5K RPM and you JUST now noticed? :icon_confused:

In other words, if you just cruise down the road itll hang in gear instead of up shifting?

What are you using to judge the RPM? Stock or aftermarket tach? Do you think if shifts high just by looking at the tach, or is there substantial engine noise at higher RPM's as well?

EDIT -

Any way you could take a video of this for us?

a video while driving??? I'll see if i can borrow a video camera

Do you think the tach is operating as it should? I'm not sure how one could not realize the engine was revving all the time like that. Maybe the tach is a little jumpy? :dunno:

If it really is waiting that long to shift, it sounds like your modulator valve no longer functions. A Haynes/Chiltons manual should walk you through replacing it.
