Ok new F150 truck out of the question so wondering:
apprx cost of purchasing a 4.0 engine to replace my 3.0 and cost of having mechanic do the engine swap. By time all is done would this be significantly cheaper that buying a new truck like a F150? Could I keep the transmission thats in there already? I've got a 2003 Ranger 3.0L V6 supercab auto trans.

Significantly more expensive than selling your truck and purchasing a completely OEM, untouched 4.0 truck. Is the performance of the 3.0 really that much of a problem for you?

Well when towing my popup camper I could use a bit more umph. The 3.0 is just adequate and forget about steep inclines. Also the trailer does thing called porpoising where the bouncing motion is transferred to truck making for rough ride on freeway.

That really isn't a problem caused by the 3.0. Sound like you may need a bigger truck.

The 4.0 and 3.0 aren't even in the same family. For the amount of extra work and time, if you want power, buy a comparable year 4.0 truck. More power down low, and less time and aggravation.
