Anyone know if a the 2.3 will turn 30's or 31's? it seems hard to get up to highway speeds as it is. any suggestions? :icon_confused:

I have a 2.3 running 31" 10.50s and it does fine. The 2.3's have a lot of torque so they have no problem pushing 31s. Stock or 31s, you're going to have problems getting up to speed because the engine is so small...but 31's are fine

I have 30's with 4.10 gears. Its not too bad. At highway speed, I think gas mileage got better, but city driving it definitely got worse. I have 31 x 11.5 Swampers for 4 wheeling, but haven't had time to mount them yet.

There was a guy on here last night who has a 4 cylinder turning 35's. It can be done, but your not going to set any acceleration records.

I have a 94 4x4 w/ a 2.3 and run 31's no problem. Its all about your gearing combination. I run 5.13's with the stock manual tranny, can still do 65 mph at about 2900 rpm. Fuel economy is still pretty good. I average about 25 mpg with mixed driving. Its no powerhouse but it pulls pretty good.

Being from Hawaii, do you have any cool truck pics? I'd like to see your 94.

As I mentioned elsewhere, my 90 2.3 5 speed 4x4 on 31s with 4.10s wasn't going to set any records, but around town and wheeling it is just fine. I can do 80, but it isn't happy, it likes 65 or so. Don't recall what it was spinning at. But I was getting 28MPG with it. Knowing it wasn't real strong, I just drove where it was happy...

I am putting 33s on it, so I don't expect any perf or fuel efficiency gains. Purely for offoad performance... I have 35s I COULD put on, but doubt it would be any fun to drive at all. Finish the SAS and get it back on the road soon!

4.10's would be the minium to run with 30-31 inch tires and the 2.3. or its going to be pretty gutless. 4.56's would be a better choice.and keep you pretty much in the stock power range and fuel millage.

3.45's,3.73s will suck. you will be in 3rd gear alot.and 5th will be dam near useless.and the slighest hill, you will swear your driving a old tired cement truck with a full load.

I've got 30s on mine with 3.45 gears. It's not horrible, and didn't really slow down the truck at all. Gota gas it more to start on a hill. Thats the only difference I've noticed. It gave the truck a more aggressive appearence and didn't affect the performance much. Also noticed I can take it a lot more offroad places
