Not only that, but the safety check is done by eye and entered into a computer, unlike emissions testing. SO the attendant on the safety part of the inspection can mark off things as legit even if they arent with no one being the wiser, just be nice to the guy....or slip him a $20 bill

Think of the bright side, it didn't happen while you were driving down the highway. That's the way I looked at it after I popped a steel line going to the rear when I slammed on my brakes trying to avoid having the front of my truck taken off by someone turning right from a strait lane. If it wouldn't have happened then, I would have had been going down the highway in a short bit, or possibly pulling a car on the dolly in the next day or so, and that would have been really ugly, but instead it happened in town and I had enough brake fluid and was able to build enough pressure to stop so I was able to get home and swap rides.

I bought several years ago the rubber fender flares that they use on school buses. You can cut it to size and it was cheap. Just a thought.
