After a lot of researching and figuring out what I wanted to do for some "filler" base to take the stress off the Pioneer 4 ways using the high pass filter in the deck this is what I ended up with. It is a SoundStorm USS8. It actually has exceeded my needs and rattles the rear window that irritates the heck out of me but that will be rectified with a solid rear window:). Anywho, for those not wanted to let the neighbors in on your music selection and want quality reproduction for a small car/truck this is the ticket. Amazon has them as low as $124. A lot of different people with a wide variety of makes/models has used them with great feedback. This is it installed behind the seat on the rear wall of my '97 regular cab...

man thats a great idea i got a 10 in my reg cab and man no room any more ill lookinto it

Thats the best thing about this unit. It is not much higher than the Sirius box next to it. I have FULL movement of my seat. I get a nice message while I drive, too:yahoo:

looks pretty great... i'd love to have some thumpin bass.. but that may be more realistic for people with kids, wives that don't approve lol.. and such

anything wrong with putting it under a seat besides possible contact with water on really rainy days or something? (from your shoes)

it's nice that it comes in an enclosure as well...

interested in the RMS however, as it only lists the Max, which around here is worth almost nothing.

do you have it hooked up to an amp?

RMS is listed as 400 watts but I am sure that is optimistic. It is a self-powered unit so the amp and everything is all one unit with lots of adjustabilty for dialing it in to your style of music and level of listening though they are also in my deck.

The unit is too large to fit under my seat which is where I really wanted to put it but I built a mock-up with the dimesions before I even ordered it to see where it would fit.

oh okay, why is it able to be so thin??

It uses a slim mount woofer...kind of like what Pioneer makes for it's narrow loaded boxes.

ya i knew pioneer had those.. just didn't realize you could get a shallow mount for that cheap... probably because like you've said before that it's not like the best quality subwoofer.. so you don't pay for it.

looks like a pretty decent setup though.
it's in my favorites.. definitely a possibility

what's the electrical set up like?

can you type out a wiring diagram?

like

battery neg -> part x -> part y -> etc

the powered sub's have amps built in to them so you just run your power cables right into the side.

It gets wired up just like and amp would. I used an 8 guage wiring kit so it is just power to battery, ground and remote turn-on lead plus the RCA cables and wire for the remote gain control which is on the other side.

It boiled down to this unit and a Bazooka tube (which I have used before). This sounds better than an 8" self-powered Bazooka tube. The base is tighter which I prefer. The Bazooka just would not fit without doing the 60/40 seat mod and putting it in between the seats or having my seat too close to the wheel. For my needs it is just fine as I will not be over-running it. For the small cab it is more than enough. Of course, I am 40 years old....hahaha. Now the truck sounds much better than the Mustang with the fancy-smancy MACH system...what a joke:)

sounds even better lol
simplicity is good for people who don't have the minds of electricians
