Fuel chugger at high rpm

I brought my truck to a strech of street to finnaly do a 0-60test sence the addition of all my add-ons. i have never really pushed my 4 banger hard but i wanted to see what she could do. i shifted each time at about 4.5k and hit 60 in 11 sec. I was driving back to my house when i looked down and saw my tank had gone down about 1/4 tank! is this normal when you push a 4 banger this hard?

it's likely just the fuel level sender moving up and down because the gas is sloshing.

i just went outside, and drove about .5 mile and i still am down to 1/4 tank from 1/2 tank.

I doubt you are having some fluke excessive fuel consumption. I find that the gauge on my ranger is heavily non-linear. The fuel level drops very slowly for the upper half of the tank and then drops like a rock for the lower half. I have had similar issues where it appears the fuel level dropped a 1/4 tank in very few miles on the lower half. Fill up your tank and see what your overall mileage is.

i have had this truck for 6 months now and it has never dropped so dramatically. The only part the drops fast is from 7/8 to 3/4 of a tank.

Mhh, funny, my truck tends to do the same thing. It only happens when I really push it. I wouldn't know how many RPM's because I have no tach, but I can hear the engine roar. I make it go up to 100 MPH on 4th gear. I do this at night on a stretch of rural Highway. My Gas only goes down a bit, but I guess it's just normal since I do drive a total of 10-12 miles when I do this.

But if you are doing this and it happens on a 0-60, then definitely worrisome. I have no expertise in the Rangers Fuel system, but you should probably check it out. The only time my gas tank does a huge drop like that is when my gas hits 1/4, from there, it drops fast. I know I still have a good 2 gallons left when I hit the red line though.

Yegh i know but i dont want to push it THAT hard. my rings are going bad too so i dont want to push my luck.

a 2.3 can be ran ALL DAY at 6000rpm and not care... back when I was running my N/A 2.3 almost every shift was in the 5k range, I drove like that for a good 5 out of the 9 years I ran that engine, it never blinked...

if it was running rich enough to burn that much fuel in that amount of distance, it would be running like ass, if at all. Black smoke, sputtering, no power, fouling plugs...

Every car I've driven has had a fuel gauge that went faster in the bottom than the top. I can drive my F-150 to Tulsa and back starting at full and still end up with the needle over 3/4, but if I leave with half a tank I'll be coasting in on fumes or stopping for gas on the way back.

6000 rpm is killer

Might run all day but for how many. I like my truck and try to treat it well. 4500 rpm is my limit.

You know your engine can survive well past the rev limiter, it's just put there because there is a point it will take itself apart, and if Ford didn't limit engine speed there would be lots of inexperienced drivers with giant holes in their blocks... I'm not sure why people are so afraid of driving a car... When you ride your lawnmower you aren't afraid to crank the throttle all the way up and let it run there for hours are you? My truck sees 3500rpm every day at least, and it has 168k on it... It's the most reliable vehicle in my family, everyone else drives their car like my grandma, they barely touch 2500rpm...

I don't know any stats but I can't imagine a lawn mower, at full throttle, is running 2000 rpm / 50% above it's peak torque/hp combo? So I don't think your example is exactly correct... why would any lawn mower manufacturer let their mower run beyond optimal engine output?

I'm not trying to start something, if they really are doing that, I'm curious as to what gain, as I always assumed they stopped at the money spot.

I don't imagine a lawnmower runs at 4500rpm either... I just used that example because no one thinks twice about running their lawnmower at full throttle (like it's supposed to) for hours on end... More often than not people are afraid to drive their cars like they were meant to... I mean if Ford knew that running your engine up to 6000rpm would kill it, they wouldn't let you do it... We just recently used Seafoam in both my truck (170k miles) and my moms car (130k miles)... I bought my truck from a guy who ran the snot out of it, and I do the same... My mother drives like, well a mom... When we did the treatment her car smoked like crazy for about 10 minutes, burning out all the carbon buildup... Mine gave out a little blue puff when I started it... That's it...
