1988 Ford Ranger XLT ((NEED AUDIO HELP))

Don't have door speakers, factory door pocket is no then?

Dude, I wish... maybe if I hold off until summer, what would you guys reccomend? The system is fine now, just not amazing. So... possibly sell the speakers I buy soon once around summer hits, or wait until summer and really lay some money into my system?

i mean this as the best way possible. grow some balls. its great you asked for help and im glad to see some one do research before they start hacking into something. but when it comes down to it.... its just having the balls to take your door apart and see what you have (do it correctly lol) , alot of trucks have many options that were left out of the truck. because of model and year and option. you if a year befor you had door speakers the odds are you have holes in your door frame for a speaker the plastic is just different.

the die stamps for metal are big$$$$$$ there not gonna change them all the ttime just so theres not speaker hole ect. if you drove the truck to one of us and said you want a speaker in the door. we would open it up and see if you can.

if this made me sound mean or a ass hat im sorry it was not my intent at all.
we can tell you what we think all day long but a screwdriver and a tape measure will never be wrong

on that note were do you live one of us may be able to stop down to look at it first hand. or do you have pics, and waiting for the summer to put real money into is a good idea, that way you can finish "steps" and your not tearing your truck apart every two months.

na it's okay man lol.. sometimes you gotta just say something, you're not an ass, you're human.

i'm thinkin thursday i shouldn't be too busy after school, or maybe even after conditioning and before work tonight, so i will see what's goin on with the door possibly.

live in omaha, ne. there's a pocket of some sort, took it apart the other day, thinking it's for a vent though... it's got like rubber flaps on the inside, my heating system sucks in that truck anyway, maybe i should get rid of it lol....

as far as useing OEM original equipment manufacture

the point i was trying to make was use oem and adapt. i like to use as much oem as i can. i live by the chip foose quote "when im done i want it to look like it came from the factory like that"

for example your back speakers, if there 4inch and the plastic has a 4 inch circle of plactic strips for the sound to get out. iffffff you can take the plastic off and see if you can expand the hole in the metal enuff to put a 5 1/4, 5x8, 6x9 in there and it will look all the same, when you put the plastic back on. if you need to and can/want to, you can cut a hole in the plastic too and mount the aftermarket speaker cover over the hole it will give you a clean look and you really havent lost any space back there,

had a buddy do the same thing but in a differnt way

installed the speakers (6x9) cut out a 7x8 hole the the plastic and cleaned up the edge really well to were it was perfectly smooth again. and cut the flat part of the aftermarket speaker grill out and mounted in on the back side of the hole. so when it was all back together, it went from new hole to black grill with a nice seam... look nice

just some different solutions around the same problem

can you take some pics of the factory speaker locations in your rig, I'm not too familair with 88 rangers

i used car domain to look up and 88 xlt the doors should be just fine for putting in speakers so you dont have to use the 4 inchers in the front.
but i didnt get any pics of the back

the full ranges add a wonderful depth to music. When I added them to my car it picked up a lot more especially for bands like dave matthews. of course I keep forgetting the whole budget thing lol

In my system on the saab I have the tweeter mounted right on the window well in the upper middle of the photo and 6.5" woofers in the doors where the triangle grill cover is. Trust me when I saw your truck will be much easier to hook up than this was. your going to want to hide your cross over box in the dash somewhere because if you hook your system up to an amp later on you'll want to be able to get at it again and you only want to take your doors apart so many times.

different views... don't mind the dust lol... i need to detail the inside one of these warmer days

door panels are solid besides the ?vent? can anybody confirm or deny that it's a vent?? not sure how a vent would work in a door, how would it be connected? anyway...

any input on those?
should i spend more? probably will be able to since I am pretty sure I am waiting for summer...

also, now there's three options...
update fronts
update backs
install door panel speakers (if this is still possible)

i'm thinking I would update the fronts first still.

lol dude i have never seen anything like it:icon_rofl:

i the first thought that popped in my head. would be get rid of all that behind your seats. and get one 10'' and two 6x9's and make a three chambered box back there 10;; in the middle 6x9 on eather side. maybe just a lack of sleep idea.

like a really long power wedge will fit nice back there

well at least the fronts are easy to open up and look at

is that a good or a bad thing that you've never seen anything like that... like do you mean wow, or like that's so retarded lol?

actually would be probably tight lol... the drivers seat is connected with the middle seat, they are on the same rack. the right seat is by itself, not that any of that matters i don't think... i will try and measure the "shelf" back there for depth and length

well at least the fronts are easy to open up and look at

how do you think i need to do it? think the tops just pop off with a screwdriver or something?
sorry if that's an idiotic question lol.

i would ditch those rear speakers and enclosures. either replace them with a pair of 6x9 in some enclosures. then run those off the deck. or add a 8 or 10 inch sub. can you post a picture of what the doors look like with and without the panels on? maybe they can be modified to accept a speaker.

this is all i can do for now... i'm not very comfortable taking the entire door panel off unless someone knows about the 88 ford ranger door panels..

from what i can tell, it's just empty... thus making it possible to put a speaker there, any guesses on the dimensions?

well I wish I would have seen this earlier I have my door panels off of my 87. but yes that is just a vent it is so when you shut the door you dont blow out the seals around the windows, ya you can stop laughing I don't think my 87 was ever that tight but maybe when it was brand new. and I know that there is no spot in my doors for speakers yet, (not saying yours doesn't) but since I changed my dash to a genV dash I need to find a way to mount door speakers. My plan is to enclose the the sheet metal in the with a removable sheet incase I ever have to change a window. I will then take a speaker ring that will fit my speaker like this

But keep in mind that I am planing on making new door panels and blocking of the vent area. and that I have alot to finish on the truck before I get to the door speaker. good luck. It looks like you can place stock 4" speakers in the dash mod your doors for a poss. 6"x9" and do a wedge bass box and amp behind the seat. should be a hell of a system.

yea there more going on there then i fisrt thought.

as far as getting to the front speaker i would say it just taking out the two front screws.

but as far as the back idk if it was good or bad just really different.

but my three speaker idea sound good still with 4 hours of sleep. it will work and be different. and kinda makes life easer. if you build a wedge box lest say 3 feet long you can have the sub in the middle chamber and the 6x9 right nex to it in there own chambers not that they really need it but it will look clean, and kinda cool in my two cents and its alot less fabing. and it you dont have the room to lay them out flat you can put the speakers on the side then you only have to cover the depth of the speaker.
