doing a google on Napa batteries, and I was trying to find out who makes the best batteries.

all I got was a bunch of mumbo jumbo about how NAPA batteries are crap. Generally NAPA has the best parts, I'm trying to do my research as to which store has the best batteries,(autozone, NAPA or Wal-mart)

Consumer Reports did a battery test about two years ago, the better NAPA batteries scored very well, as did the Wal-Mart batteries. The better Duralasts at AutoZone came out well. I had always bought Die-Hards but they came out on the bottom of the heap.

napas batteries are made by exide: very good batteries (and one of the few still made in america). i worked at a napa for over 3 years and saw those batteries put through some terrible torture tests (in the form of commercial fishing vessels). ive got an "orbital" (spiral cell optima duplicate) in the ranger. its going on 5 years old, has been drained several times with the power inverter and still starts the truck without issues.

I've had good luck with the MotorCraft batteries. I have always been a fan of Interstate Auto Batteries.

exide lost napa last year.
East Penn (Deka) now.
thats what i sell.

I run Interstate in my Mazda,Harley,Baja speedboat, and Jeep.Don't know whats in the Ranger (just got it).I run NAPA batteries in my big boat (8D's) that each crank a 6-71 Detroit diesel (2).I get about 2-3 years out of them-considering the marine environment plus the fact that they also operate pumps and lights, which are hard on ANY brand battery (ask me how I know).
I tend to like interstate because they seem to hold up the best.I run the NAPA's in my big boat because they are 130-140$ and have the same CCA's as 250$ batteries.

Optima red top. 6 years, no problems. I like this type battery because they do not gas and corrode everything around them.:)shady

East Penn makes Napa's batteries now? That's cool if they do, because East Penn ones have been getting harder to find lately for some reason.

I find Diehards to be the better battery. And becuase of this, I switched to a Diehard Platium. $200 for one in a 65group size, but the Ranger now cranks over with such ease in the winter now. My parent's Buick and Chevy have the Diehard Gold 75group, both are over 3years now and still start good in the winter.

The AAFES Energizer battery was crap, or I just got one that was crappy. It would pass the load test barely, so I could not replace it. But it would have enough juice to just crank the engine in the winter.

Interstate batteries seem to be pretty good. We have them in our store for about a year since we switched from Johnson Control Energizer to Interstate. They test good and strong and most that I've seen come back that are dead are usually over 5years old.

Maybe for cars Diehard is good (my dad got 5½ years out of one in his Honda Accord), but they suck bad in 4x4s.
Every one I've had (or any battery made by Johnson Controls for that matter) sprayed acid out their vents when jostled around. East Penn batteries (such as the Delco Voyager) don't do this at all whatsoever. No corrosion issues on the terminals or on the battery's surroundings either.

One of the two Diehard deep-cycles in my Ranger finally gave up on me just a few months ago, right about 4½ years old. The Delcos I had before them lasted 8 years.

Theres is severally reasons why I choose the Platium over the Gold or Diehard over any other battery. The Diehard Platium offered the best warranty (4yr free replacement), best CCA (930) and RC (135min), AGM technology (Asbsorded Glass Mat, same as Optima), brass connectors and terminals, tin coated terminals, and virgin lead plates (clean lead, purified).

Other batteries that we had were Motorcraft and Delco Voyeger. My dad's old 91 Ranger had the orignal battery in it still when he traded it in back in 1998. His Stratos has Delco Voyeger batteries from 1995 and still going. Thou I keep edgeing him to have them tested becuase I doubt they hold very much of a charge any more.

i like carquest batts. - if i recall they were or are make by east penn aswell. i've had nothing but trouble with wal-marts "never lasts". idk if i kept getting crap ones but i got a new one and crapped out not even a month latter, took it back and did the same thing 2 more times, that was enough for me and i went and got a carquest and that was over 4 years ago.

car quest=East Penn if the battery is flat top (no caps)

your right junkie,i will not run anything with caps either.thats why i like the deka batteries.

the company i work for,4 stores recycled 4 million pounds of batteries last year.my store had over $300,000 in sales alone so Ive seen a few batteries.

The original battery in my Ranger lasted nearly 8 years. It was still starting the truck even on the coldest days when I replaced it. I replaced it because if the truck sat for more than two or three days I'd have to jump it to get it going. And I abused the heck out of it. I replaced it with a Wal-Mart special that still had a couple months of warranty. Wouldn't you know, it had to be replaced before the free replacement period ended. I've run Wal-Mart batteries in my 88 and my choptop, I think I've replaced it 3 times now... somewhere between 2-3 years and it craps out, just under the free replacement warranty. Aside from having to make a run to walmart for a replacement, I'm not gonna complain too much as I havent had to buy another battery. The last time I had to replace it, it was so dead it wouldn't even jump, that was back around November. Pulled the battery, ran it up to walmart, and it was only when I set it on the floor up there that I realized something was amiss.... the battery had froze solid...
