Rim/tire matchup

Newbie here. Trying to help my son out. He's found some nice rims (Pacer) for his 04 Ranger. They're 10" rims. His stock tires are good, wants to use them. They're 225/70/15. Just wondering if they'll be wide enough for the rims?

No. A 7" wide rim is more prefered. A 10" wide rim is more for the sizes of 265/xxRxx and up.

Well 10" could work but they would be a PITA to mount, they would wear funny and would be a bit shorter than 28" tires, 8" rims will work but get some 265/75/15's or 31x10.50R15's they will fit the rims better. My truck has both 31x10.50's on 8" rims and 235/75 (28x9.5) on 5.5" rims.

thats the stock size for a 2wd ranger.

they'll fit an 8 inch rim. guys here are stretching 225's on a 10" rim for the lowrider look

31x10.5 will rub if hes got a coilspring 2wd suspension.

I was blown away when i went to a local shop and they were mounting 225's on a 10" rim. All i could think was "LIABILITY" possibly!!?? I never questioned the owner.

Ever seen a Firestone FR380 mounted on a 8-10" rim or even the correctly match rim size. It looks like a donut mounted on a full size wheel. Just because the manufactuers made a 235/75R15, doesn't mean it should go on the SUV. But people look at that price and don't want to spend $75~100 for the right tire.

Well, he got them all mounted up. They look good. BTW, yes it is 2wd. Tire shop kind of gouged him ( I thought ). $45 for Chrome lugs w/lock. $3 to dismount, $3 to mount, $15 spin balance, ended up around $132.00.

Is this mostly 4x4 forum? I have a 78 CJ5 with a 304 engine. Four inch lift w/33 super swampers, so I can relate!

damn, 130 bucks to mount and balance tires... I'm spoiled I guess, I do all my own for the cost of weights and valve stems more or less.

$132 for lugs and to mount 4x tires. You got scammed big time. My shop only charges $9.45 per tire and that includes new valve stem, mounting & balancing. Even the lug nuts are high.

thats stuff free to me pretty much if i do it myself at 3 dollars an hour for the bay balance my f150 tires and mounted and balanced my B2 tires myself

Alright, just wasn't sure, still sed to the 2wd's having either 14's or like 20's or something.

If you go back to the late 70's-early 80's, Trans Ams and Corvettes were coming from the factory with 225/70-15 tires on 15x8 rims.
