Did you know that there are several ordinances in town that pertain to the parking and storage of cars? These ordinances increase the livability, desirability and the appearance of all of our neighborhoods. Many residents may not be aware of these ordinances, or may have questions about them. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions relating to this issue:

Q.
Where can I legally park my vehicle if it is inoperable or unregistered?

A.

The vehicle may be parked in your garage, but not in public view.

Q.
I have a Certificate of Non-operation on a car that I am not currently driving. Isn’t that the same as being registered? Can’t I park it on my driveway?

A.

You must store that car in your garage. The City doesn’t recognize a Certificate of Non-operation as being legally registered because a vehicle so designated can’t be driven legally on public streets.

City Municipal Code does not permit inoperable or unregistered vehicles to be parked just anywhere on public or private property. They may be stored inside garages, but may not be stored on driveways, unpaved surfaces, front, side or rear yards. Vehicles stored inappropriately continue to deteriorate and affect the overall appearance of the neighborhood. They also accumulate dirt, trash, leaves and debris.

If you need to store a vehicle that isn’t licensed, registered or operable, please put it in the garage or store it off-site, but not on the driveway, public street or in your yard.

Makes me want to just get up and move there. I have not read B.S. like this in a while. That town is *not* America, but sadly it IS in America.

I keep my junk in the weeds behind the house. That way the neighbors can only complain about my unsightly weeds because they hide the cars.

what do u mean, that town is the state of NJ

I moved my Ranger to a new place in Barrie...parked it on the side of the driveway for about a month...then got a $100 fine with no warning or anything...just pay the man and STFU is what they said...essentially...

I contested it because the owner of the house was going to expand the driveway, but they said it would not do because the vehicle was not licensed...

And this came about because a neighbor snitched...

However...people in the same neighborhood stored their big ugly boats on their properties without any problem...and when I brought this to their attention they mumbled something about storage of useable vehicles...and then I showed them that I was restoring the vehicle and that it was just under the 20 year limit (you can store a vehicle that is 20 years old or older on your property in plain site, but not one that is not on the road and less than 20 years old...

I was pissed, but I do understand what they are trying to accomplish...because there would be scrapyards aplenty on every street without that ordinance...

you need to find some free broken pos riding mowers

That is the norm here in Calgary. The derelict car bylaw states that if it can't be driven on the road legally, it can not be outside of your garage. Back yard is also in violation of said bylaw.

My Honda Civic project fits nicely in my garage, but my '88 X-cab Ranger project may be a tight squeeze. Keep my dirtbikes in the kitchen for some added room out there! :D

I know exactly what you mean, BUT, theres a loophole. If it is on top of a registered trailer you're good.

Yes, I think that is how the boat owners get around it...unfortunately, I don't have a registered trailer...it is now, technically, over 20 years old...so I can park it in the driveway without getting a fine...

we got that same crap here. the law here says that it must be in storage. i have a shed that is open on both ends so you can still see all the crap. my little way of tellin em whats up.:thefinger:

around here it is 2 unregistered cars in plain view in your yard, if they can't be seen from the road or your neighbors house you can have as many as you want though.

That is normal in a lot of places. That is also normal in about all HOA's.

Some locations may not enforce it, but I bet you will find it in the code in a lot more places then you realize.

Back when i was living at my folks place (AKA Upscale Place) i bought a 1994 F250 Diesel that was used as a farm truck all its life hauling horses around.

Anyways my neighbors were ALWAYS complaining to my folks about this eye sore of a truck.

So to satisfy the community i started leaving my truck at work and bringing my Service truck home from work (i was a school bus mechanic) it was a 1986 Ford E350 short bus converted into a service truck. It was in FAR FAR worse sharp than my truck and smoked REALLY bad on start up (mine smoked but not like that).

Then they begged me to bring my old truck home and they never bothered me again. Eventually i had that truck looking PERFECT and running even better (i modded the hell out of it) so it was not an issue but still.

as soon as you buy a house, put hard earned money into making it look nice and some kids tears into a rusty mustang next door on the lawn, you remember this thread

I'd be more pissed off that he's working on a mustang. The only thing they're good for is the motor and trans! I'd be like "Kid, why don't you get yourself a nice first gen ranger to put that 5.0 and t-5 in, instead of screwin around with that mustang!":icon_thumby:
