unemployment rant

tryin to call unemployment for the past week an the phones been nuthin but busy. its madness. an i could use a paycheck

ive been callin for every day for the past month and a half, usually on hold about 4 hours before they hangup on me

...I think I got one up on ya. I had a big nasty fight between my company (Tigre) when they laid me off.

Here's the background. Basically, they needed an electrician and a tig welder, well I was qualified for both so instead of bringing on two people they just brought on me. Well, now they're having difficulty selling their product (PVC fittings) so they lay off four of us white people (there were only 4 of us). I had seniority over everybody in maintenance but one and I got laid off. There were a few peurto-ricans who spoke fluent english who loved me. "Awww, man Jimmyboy. You can fix anything" they would say. Anyways, I'm laid off and Tigre called me back wondering if I would come in and teach one of the mexicans they hired how to weld and do electrical... and that they would pay me $10.00 an hour. Well, I said **** that. This all happened within a week of them laying me off. So I finally get ahold of unemployment. It literally took 8 consistent days of me calling unemployment with my phone on speakerphone listening to the "music" until I could talk to a rep. This is where it gets fun...

Apparently, I showed NO earnings at Tigre. I got a little irritated and asked them to elaborate a little and explain. Well, apparently there's no documentation of any taxes from Tigre in my name. Well, say that cant be. To prove I had made wages I sent copies of all my pay stubs. I get a call back two weeks later from an interviewer. Apparently, Tigre hasn't been paying state taxes! They were with holding state taxes out of my paycheck but not sending the money to the state of wisconsin so that is why it showed as no earnings. Meanwhile, its been a good six weeks and my savings account is getting low because I have no form of income (besides a little sidework here and there). Finally last thursday I get a call from unemployment saying I will be recieving all the backpay and basically they will deal with Tigre! YAY

4x4mike2004, quit trying to call, you can do everything you need to do on the state's unemployment site. Reopen a claim/file a new one etc. File for checks etc. I'm currently collecting unemployment and i've never called them once.

Nowadays you should NEVER call. It's way faster and simpler if you just file an unemployment claim online.

well, i cant file online they tell me i HAVE to call, and they dont have any regional offices in NJ anymore they are all layed off with the state tryin to save money

i tried to do it online, but i just got off active duty (was deployed) and theres nothing on the website for it. its a pain in the ass. im going to call the state rep tomorrow and throw a fit about unfair treatment of veterans and see where that gets me. if i absolutely have to i could go to a regional office, but its still a half hour away. there phone has been busy too for the last week.

there are certain instances where they want you to call in in order to file. but most of the time filing online is the way to go.

but get this....i tried to do my first online claim last week on sunday and the WEBSITE was busy and booted me out. i was in the unemployment office last week and the receptionist said they were something like 5,000 claims behind because of how many people are on unemployment right now.

this economy really sucks...

Not to sound like a kawk or nothin, but seriously....you guys have time to bitch about this online but you don't have time to go out and apply anywhere and everywhere to go get a new job?

I have never EVER been out of work for longer than a week at a time. Call it what you will, but I HATE not working. I mean, I'd rather flip burgers or dip french fries than sit on my ass on the computer bitching about it. I don't know.....maybe not everyone knows as many people as I do, or has the connections that I have, but I have never had to do the unemployment thing, thank go. Not saying I wouldn't, or that everyone on here shouldn't be, but I know that every time I have been in you guys' shoes, I sure as fawk wasn't sittin at home on the P.C. startin piss and moan threads. I was out applying, granted, it was for anything and everything, but I was at least trying....which from what it looks like, is a lot more than some people are doing. I guess maybe I'm old school as fawk and whatnot, but it just irritates the **** outta me to hear ppl bitch about not gettin their unemployment money, when a little bit of that is coming out of my paychex and I don't see a lot of them trying to do any and everything they can about it.

wow, way to generalize a group just because we're on unemployment.

i was laid off after my shop downsized. i have dozens of applications and resumes in from westport to olympia (over 2 hours from here). i have applications in at all the fast food joints in town and i have been bugging them every week to make sure my app. doesnt get sent to the bottom of the stack.

theres only so much applying a guy can do before hes applied to about everything hes qualified to do. especially since most places want you to apply online these days anyway (which i HATE doing...id much rather talk face to face).

not all of us are loosers looking for handouts from the government. some of us are genuinely trying to get jobs.

Dude... Wake up.. Anyone who can file for unemployment has EARNED it. In order to recieve you had to have worked at least 6 months in the past year, and made a certain amount. We pay into it out of our checks, and most of the money comes from the company you work for. Unemployment IS NOT WELFARE.

I was laid off for two weeks because my employer was closed for the holidays. I got one check from them for a whopping $195. Turns out when you work a second job part time, it takes a LOT away from what you get.... See not everyone is a moocher. Where do you work by the way? Maybe they are hiring? Instead of sitting on the computer bitching about people's unemployment, maybe read up on where the funding actually comes from..if you have time that is.

If your gonna use the work "fawk" at least spell it the same what through out the whole thread.

Obviously the government offices work the same way down there as they do here. They come in in the morning and take the phone off the hook and put it back on as they leave in the afternoon. Find out where the office is and go pound on the door.

I don't know what to tell you about the unemployment office but when there are two million plus people out there looking, it gets damn hard.

do you read newspapers? maybe watch the news ever? times are tough 7.2% unempoyed
thats pretty damn close to 1 in 10 buddy. if dude wants to vent a little it dont mean heaint doing anything about it, and of course you cant see them doing anything about it. My old man is unemployed but not b/c hes lazy. ppl need that money to eat
