snorkels???

well since the time i almost buried the engine in my truck in a water/mud hole, ive been thinking about getting a snorkel for my truck? so my question is where can i buy one? an if i make my own how do i hook it up like where do i put the air filter thats what i cant figure out?

Someone recently asked about carb snorkels...not sure if any of those are for carb applications, but the one from the cowl looked like it might have been...

Here is one mounting an ARB snorkel.

I just used aluminum dryer vent tube to connect to the stock air box. Run it from the fender penetration, between the outer and inner fender to just behind the right headlight. Flip the stock air inlet to the air box so it faces up and forward. I put a 3" electrical conduit coupling inside the stock inlet to make it round and act as an adaptor to attach the vent tube. Wala! You have a water tight hook up.

When you just piggy back off the air box are they sealed with a silicon so they are water proof and a filter used under the Cap?

this is my try at a snorkel, total cost was about $30, all from lowes!

i just built one on my ranger recently.

i took a 3" to 2" PCV reducer and connected it to the outlet on the airbox:



i then used 2 pieces of 2" PCV pipe and 2 90 degree fittings to route the piping to the inner fenderwell:





from here i cut a hole in the cowl housing and used 2 pieces of 2" PCV, a 2" coupler and a 90 degree fitting to complete the routing of the snorkels piping:



all piping is painted black now:





i decided to give the snorkel more air so i added a vent. this vent is used for campers Danco
Galvanized Plumbing Vent Cap for Mobile Home and it worked perfectly.



first i drilled a hole in the cowl with a 3 inch dewalt hole saw, then i used a 2 inch coupler, 2 pieces of 2 inch PVC pipe, and a 90 to bring the snorkel piping up through the cowl.
