LED question

im not sure if this in the right place so if it isnt i apologize.
I was at the auto store yesterday and saw some LED bulbs that would replace the brake light bulbs and was wondering if they would work alright in my truck if i got the right kind. anyone tried them or seen them before?

They work fine. So do standard brake light bulbs. The latter are cheaper.

honestly, the reason im thinking of switching to LED is just because its something to do haha. i have a problem where i get bored and start looking for things to do on my vehicles haha

They are brighter I swapped mine. As for the brightest, currently Putco makes the brightest replacement bulbs I have seen. If ya put it in your mouth it'll make your eyes glow red. (Don't ask)

Make sure the bulbs have sufficient resistive load so the turn signals will still operate properly.shady

Usually LED lighting is an engineered combination of the LED and the lens. Most of the replacement "LED bulbs" have a narrow viewing angle and don't take advantage of the reflector in your existing housing. Even the "tower" style lack brightness across the necessary viewing angle. Look closely at assemblies on the cars with LED lights from the factory. The first thig you'll see is how close the light sources are to the lens.
And, like the other guy said, sometimes getting them to flash can be a chore. May require anything from load resistors to electronic flashers.

And here it is... Note the red on the bottom of the eyesockets.

It's a Putco Premium White 1156 in a reel light. Note the bulb only has 1 super bright L.E.D. not an arrangement of many.

i replaced my tail light bulbs with the LED bulbs. The light is more of a red color an is brighter for sure. But they do not use the full reflector as stated above. It also makes your turn signals twice as fast as if a bulb was burned out. I get tired of hearing the clicking if i sit too long but i like the look. I do the same if i get bored i ook for cheap upgrades for my truck as well. lol

Check out my thread on using cheap led trailer lights to make LED brake lights. This takes care of the reflector issue since they contain there own reflectors unlilke the small view angle led cluster bulbs that replace your stock tail light bulbs.

the fast blinking is easily cured with a heavy duty flasher.

yea i bought some resistors off ebay in aluminum cases, actually designed for led light custom applications on vehicles wigh mechanical resistance driven blinker systems.
