ideas needed on how I could do this.

I am trying to figure out how I can make my 90 ranger have independant suspension all around set up like a HMMWV. If anyone has some suggestions or ideas on how I would go about this I would like to hear them.

Maybe use the IRS from a '02up Explorer?

It also might be worth checking out the rear suspension/axle from a Nissan Armada, I heard somewhere it's built into like a module, that could be swapped in place of a solid axle relatively easily (I haven't actually looked at it myself though).

Why do you want 4WIS?
 
ive also heard of the IRS out of a later t-bird used in a ranger, though it was a street build...not sure how "liftable" it'd be...
 
Well I work on HMMWV for a living and I have never driven a better offroad vehicle, so I would like to try it out with one of my rangers and see how well it works on it.
 
I know Vettes and Datsun Z-cars have tough IRS units.... I see your truck is 2wd. I'd imagine the Vette unit would be closer to the width you need for a Ranger though. Unless you're planning on making it 4wd, then I have no idea.

Why not just buy a surplus HMMWV?

Most people don't waste their time swapping IFS/IRS into a truck, so you likely won't find much documentation on it. Although, I did come across a "buggy" that has Chevy 1500 IFS swapped into it front and rear using coil-overs. I think it was on eBay.

Do you know of anyplace that it relativly cheap on HMMWV parts?
 
I agree with Johnny, you will NOT be able to duplicate the performance (well, the durability anyway) of a HMMWV using OEM consumer grade junk, it's just not built the same (the lack of geared portal hubs just compounds the issue).

To get anything close to it's durability would essentially require using 1-ton F-350 solid axles or similar. However the offroad performance of such (excepting ground clearance at the differential) will likely exceed that of the Humvee by a very wide margin.
