What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Another thought. If I take a passenger seat off of the track mechanism, won’t it just bolt down on the driver side track mechanism? The slide and recline are part of the track and not the seat, yes/no?

If I do that, and I build a center console, that could solve a couple other minor problems I have since the cab of that truck is so small. Not enough storage, and another place to put some speakers, and….

What are everybody’s thoughts?
My understanding is that it should bolt down but your adjustment handle would be in the center console area.

My green Ranger has buckets, previous owner built a custom center console but I wasn’t a fan of his design since it had two speakers in the top and no cup holders. Was always wanting for my German Shepherd to stomp on one of the speakers so that had to change quickly. I designed and built my own that has two oversized cup holders and the speakers in the side, plus plenty of room in it. I wanted to tuck a CB and GMRS radio in the console plus some other stuff. Haven’t quite got it finished yet. I do still have the template and stuff, I had thought of building some for others but life got in the way.

Thanks, good info.

I checked the three pull a parts, and a whole seat is only about $33 including the bolt down frame. I can’t do it this week, but I’m going to search through the Ranger listings and go to the place that has the most Rangers that would work and take one of theirs apart, and maybe buy the whole thing. I’ll only get it if it has a good fanny cushion. Then I can just swap the seat, and take mine apart and rebuild it, and then swap it back in. I went to Hobby lobby and found some foam that’s a little bit denser that I think I can make work.

But I’m still open to options

I saw it posted somewhere online but on my worn seats I started adding some chunks of carpet padding under the stock foam, it helps, and adding some extra springs.

You don't have to stop at Rangers for looking for seats, the '91-02ish Explorer is where you get the nice ones that bolt right to your stock seat tracks...

Good point. I was planning on doing some “shopping” once I get there..

Yeah, 91-01 Explorers used pretty much the same seats and they were buckets

man, i want a bench seat so bad in my truck but ive crammed the interior with sooooo much shit into every nook and cranny, shit is stacked up so high behind the seats, would be annoying as hell to have that tower of shit faling over on both sides everytime i wanted to grab something behind the seat. passenger floor board is composed of ratchet straps, bungees, big hammers and big wrenches all covered by a floor mat, lol.

though i would love to have my gf riding in the middle seat not being taller than me :p

would these orielly brake hardware kits be the equivilent of the $5-7 kits on rock auto?
becuase 1. i cannot find higher priced brake hardware kits at autozone or orielly. (im assuming higher priced kits use higher quality metals and coatings)
2. my entire RA order fits on one shipment except for the $20 brake hardware kit which bumps up the cost to $30 .... I may as well just buy a $30 kit from local autozone/orielly that I can return, ya?

Ya. Sometimes local beats out RA when you figure in the shipping, and brake hardware is pretty standard quality.

from what i am reading, a 99 ford explorer 8.5in axle-shaft should fit inside my 2000 2.5l ranger 7.5in 'rear end' is this correct? rhis explorer axle shaft looks fine, doesnt seem to be one of the FX explorers

also i opened up the rear diff of a 93 ranger, but the cross pin bolt head snapped off between the threads and the smooth tip. is there anyway to get the cross pin out?

Might just be the picture... but it looks like that axle has seen better days.

Explorer 8.8 axles had 31 splints.

7.5 and 8.8 ranger axles (except FX4 8.8) have 28 splines

im now trying to pull ab axle shaft from an 02 6cyl 8.8 with an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. i cant find any sort of nuetral release slot. gonna go back to car and pray i have a 12pt 12mm socket

To get an axle shaft for your Ranger, you need a shaft from a Ranger, from the same side of the axle. Don't even look at explorer axles if you are looking for a shaft for a Ranger axle... just make sure the Ranger is not an FX4 level 2. The bearing area of the shaft is like 1/4" bigger on the explorer axles and the shafts are a different length so they're wrong every way. Also you need the correct year range of Ranger, you need '93 through '09 (or was it '08?) as they are longer starting in '93.

People swap Explorer axles into Rangers, but not much internal is interchangeable

After a bit of a hiatus on the 2011 because of one reason or another, I started back to work on it. I got the bed up on saw horses so I can better access the underside of the bed and assess the rust damage. Some of it was worse than I thought. I also marked out where I'm going to cut the access hole for the fuel pump. Access will be a bit tight since the pump is so far forward in relation to front of the bed but should be do able. So, I'm going to press forward.

I will need to order some steel to repair the front of the bed where the deck meets the forward bulkhead. The focus is to get the parts inaccessible with the bed off done so I can get the truck back together when the roofers are ready to replace the house roof. They will need the driveway for a dumpster. So, the driveway needs to be cleared for that. They said they can get the roof done in a day. If there ends up being a delay, I should still be able to work on patching the passenger side of the bed with it on the truck while they do whatever they need to do.

In other news, I've been piecing together a house battery system for the 2019 to power the 12 volt refrigerator and other things. I have all the big pieces but I'm waiting on another battery and some smaller pieces like waterproof breakers, a fuse box, a lug crimper, wire, and so on. That will go into the build thread when I start. A week long camping vacation is in a month. So, I'll need to start putting that together pretty soon. I'm not sure I have enough solar panel wattage. So, this will be a experiment on if 200W of solar panels will be enough or not. In theory, I should be have enough space to add two more 100W panels, but they would be weight up high. I would rather not do that if I don't have to. I did buy a DC-DC MPPT charger. So, I could charge the system with the engine, but that would not be ideal when just sitting in one spot for a week.
