I just picked up this 93 stx that’s been sitting for like 20 years. Trying to get it back on the road, after my 1987 ranger was totaled back in December. It’s definitely a project, but it’s got some decent parts on it and the frame is clean for New England.
Have to clean the gas tank out, and swap out fuel pump and filter. What’s the best way to clean a plastic tank?
I have to figure out where it’s leaking water into the cab, I suspect it’s the windshield and 3rd brake light.

I'd probably just wash it out with a half gallon or so of fresh gas. Maybe a sponge if you're feeling particularly adventurous.
 
Nice! I see that you have fogs on it - I'm puttinjg them on my 94 and am curious where and what the fog lamp switch looks like and where it is mounted.
I get that your busy, but if you have time and when you get a chance, please post a pic of that switch and its location 🙏 pleeeze

Definitely looks good, looks like it’s worth messing with.

I just put one of those fog light/driving lamp valences is on my 97. I had the amber driving lights in the garage for like 40 years.

@rumblecloud if you use incandescent lamps, you’ll have to have a relay. If you use LED lamps, maybe not, check the amps. I used one of the extra switches I built into my switch panel that I put above the CB above the rearview mirror. On my F250, I wired them into my parking light circuit to a push button down below left of the steering column, and I ran them through a relay, but the main power was off an ignition source. That way, if I turn the truck off, the fog lights go out. I have the old-fashioned incandescent and they eat a lot of power. There are all sorts of 20 amp and 30 amp round flip switches available on eBay, with an indicator light built-in. I like them because all you have to do is drill around hole through a piece of plastic or metal somewhere and pop them in.

I think this had factory fog lamps, because the switch looks factory. Although the lights are aftermarket PIAA units. I’ll take a picture for you tomorrow, I got the truck all covered up for the rain coming overnight.
 
I cleaned the tank on my farm tractor with denatured alcohol and a handful of limestone chips to break up the varnish it had. And vigorously agitating it. Worked well, and after I dumped out the chips I “rinsed” the tank with alcohol a couple times and let it air out. Best part was I didn’t even have to leave home to do it, everything is usually around here.

I just poured in enough to get a good slosh going on each time. My tank was pretty rough with a bunch of dirt stuck in the varnish. Took a couple washes to break it all up. Your tank shouldn’t be that bad.
 
On my B2's metal tank, I used a length of clean chain, with a gallon or so of solvent solution, and tied it up hung from a tree limb to make it easier to tumble. It worked well.
