What did YOU do today?

today, more work. :(

ha ha ha, its really not bad being at work, when we have work. after work we are going to pick up a canoe for 100 bucks and who knows what else is planned.

With the weather being all wonky and various meetings going on, not much has been done.

I did finish treating a shovel handle with boiled linseed oil and sharpening the blade for easier digging.

I also started treating the handles with boiled linseed oil after removing the varnish from the wood. Not only does boiled linseed oil protect the handles better, it is easier on the hands to grip and work with compared to varnish. Manifacturers use varnish because it's a one dip and done process compared to week long application process of coat, let it dry, and repeat.

Got started on my F150 brake system replacement, new master is on & started the lines. Been awhile since Ive flared brake line, thought about putting a line-lock in the cab for the fronts as a parking brake but thats just more potential for later issues. I am deleting the original rear abs & putting a manual proportioning valve on, it will be under the hood. The old master cyl was definitely toast. First one Ive ever replaced. Was supposed to come with the stuff to bench bleed it but it wasn’t in the box so I made lines just for that.

Catch up time:

Prepped the mower for the season. Still gotta put a tube in one rear tire. It stays up for several hours though so not too worried about it. I had the tube last year and never put it in.

Got the expansion tank plumbed in and the new sink/cabinet in the bathroom.

Changed the fuel filter on the Ranger.

When changing that I scratched my arm pretty good before I ever got the fuel lines off. Once I did the blood washed away with "gas". It didn't burn. Went the next day filled up with pure gas from the Coop. Power is back, no more missing. YAY!

Fixed a pinhole in a water line at Mom's. I'd already told here the 40 year old polybutylene plumbing wasn't gonna hold up to the pressure of the city water. (It's 75-80lb at my house a mile away.)

Cut down a dozen or so arm sized trees at my Aunt's.

Mowed the yard for the first time this year. Was going to spread Grub-X on the yard since it's supposed to rain tomorrow but it got too windy. High winds all afternoon and evening.

I mowed the front yard for the first time of the year today, was working on the back yard when it spit the upper deck belt that has been slipping when loaded heavy since I put it on (must have been on the long side but I had it so I used it until it wouldn't...)

After some other things I went to the back shed and pulled a weedeater that will take attachments out of "stock" that's been sitting like 10 years since my brother wanted one... after changing the fuel lines and adding a regulator diaphragm to the carburetor it even ran! At that point I called it a day... I'm going to try to remember to order a deck belt here shortly...

And today is a snowstorm. Have about an inch already and coming down hard.

Took the wife to the hospital for a sleep study, because she sounds like a murder victim every night. She's probably gonna come home with a CRAP. I mean CPAP... I'm also sleep deprived. It's been rough.

Keep joking about your wife that way and see how much sleep you get!

😂

Weatherman said 0.8". Uhh, no, we've got 3" so far and it's still coming hard.

I ended up with a mouthpiece thing instead of the CPAP. I liked it a lot better.
About a year later I got diabetes and lost 25 pounds and the sleep apnea went away.
Moral of the story, diabetes cures sleep apnea.

Well last night I forgot to order a mower belt but then at work today I was wondering if I had one in stock... checked when I got home and wouldn't you know it... I should have changed that belt last year! Holy cow, no more slipping and it eats horsepower... turns out the cheap belt that came with the deck spindle kit was like 2" too long... turns out it just spit it out, wasn't even shredded...

Need to go through that box and check on consumables, I know I need to get a belt for the finish mower for the tractor (should order two, it likes to go through those...). I should investigate if there's an issue with one of the mower front tires since it was right around 0 which explains the hard steering yesterday...
