What is this thing?

I did head gaskets on my ranger and when I was going back together I found this thing in the bed of the truck. I do not remember taking it off or putting in the bed. Ive got a bit of a knocking sound now and I wondering if this is important. Im not even sure it goes to the truck, its possible that someone just wanted to get rid of their garbage.

looks like possibly a closet hanging rod base... other than that, I think Franklin has the most accurate answer.

I don't recall anything like that on my 2000 or the 1999 I dismantled.
there doesn't appear to be any marks from bolts etc.
