It's here... actually I'm a few weeks late! Report in with your game harvest.

Off to a slow start here. Two weekends ago I shot a grouse, last weekend I got two grouse and a partridge. Oct. 11th is the start of pheasant season so we will be out doing that this weekend. Mentored youth deer season started in September, been too hot to shoot deer so we will be going out the weekend of the 18th for that, my youngest son got a doe tag.

Most of the fields have not been harvested yet so the birds are still happily hidden.

archery deer season just opened this past Saturday, if someone would be willing to drag it out for me I would get a crossbow & go for deer. with my back I wont be doing any dragging much less using any other type of bow.

pheasant season here opens October 25, my boys are anxious to get out.
I normally hunt pheasant every day of the season plus try to find some woodcock. it may be a interesting season this year as most of the fields are waist to chest high with weeds, goldenrod & other plants, wont be able to keep track of the dogs !

grouse are all but nonexistent in this part of the state.

squirrel is open but they are a PIA to skin/clean.

my Lab & Brit taking a break during a run this spring......

I dont do much duck hunting anymore, cant lug decoys around like I used to. the jerks you have to compete with on public land does not make it fun any longer

So when you say grouse and partridge... from where I grew up they were one in the same. I'm gonna guess your mean sharptail grouse and a ruffed grouse as partridge?

I actually pulled out some hunting equipment this last week or so. Cleaned up a couple few. Was planning to spend a day at the gun range... sighting in to be ready for a late season muzzle loader hunting. Really wanted to shoot some trap too. It was just raining to much brass and too many people.

I really feel bad for Goober... he's 3 1/2 and this guy is ready to hunt. He would likely lose a couple pounds too he has a great nose and a beautiful bay. I just don't have places to go here.

I'm gonna look into joining a small local gun club with a few ranges and a trap course. Hopefully I can meet a couple like minded fellas and network my way into a couple hunts and let Goob work some this fall.

I believe you are correct. The one we call grouse is a larger bird about the size of a pheasant and it has dark meat. Mostly gray, white & brown. The one we were calling a partridge is about half its size, has some red feather and is more colorful and is a white meat. GF&P says we have both types of grouse plus sage grouse, partridge and prairie chickens. The partridge I shot last weekend was the first one I've ever seen actually, my father in law spotted them and yelled SHOOT!!! so I did.

Pic is from last year but these are the grouse we have in abundance, whatever species they are, ignoring the pheasant in the middle:

I won't have anything to report until deer season. Hopefully, it will be more than taking my rifle for a walk in the woods over several days.
