GM quality issues

Seen several videos on YouTube from shops saying that oil flow to the back of the heads on the Hemi is poor and the valvetrains are F'd by 60,000 miles.
Unlikely that I will ever buy a Ram/Dodge but the wife's Chrysler minivans are anvils that run forever, or at least until she totals them, which happened with the last two. The first was her fault, the second someone else ran a red light and T-boned it.

That is the MDS on the 5.7, variable valve timing. Not really a oiling issue. Usually went more than double 60k.

6.4's were good, they were usually awesome although a few outright blew up. They were always fleet trucks that had problems so who knows how they were treated...

3.6's are good for eating camps/lifters/rockers too.

My wife's old 2014 T&C was starting to make valvetrain noise when it got north of 170,000 miles but just when I was going to have it looked at, she totaled it.

Anyway, back on subject. A lot of the crap that is being pushed into vehicles is not wanted by engineers because of the long term detrimental effects to reliability, never mind the long term effects that many of the things being pushed are more harmful on environment that they are supposed to be cleaning up and protecting. I believe one of the videos posted in here stated the same on both fronts, definitely on the reliability side of things.
Agreed, but I would add if you've ever dealt with any engineers, you never have to twist their arms very hard to over-engineer something. If you know what I mean... Hats off to all you engineers out there - just remember, all we need is a 150% safety factor from you.
;)

Unless they are German. Germans love to make things more complex than necessary. I wouldn't be surprised they have to be told to simplify whatever it is they are designing on a regular basis.

I have a 2006 Ram 5.7. Bought it at 190,000 km, now has 210,000 km. Its been fine other than rust.

that is not a RAM. you have a real truck. but the beginning of the crew cabs i dislike in regards to floor design and usability....the mega cabs were great though.

stellantis....is really when i noticed our fleet rigs going to hell. especially 1/2 tons.

i actually really liked the 6.4. not as much as the godzilla, but it was really good. the transmission was good and the t case was actually manual shift. solid axles and coil springs all around...which was a plus/minus as well for my use case with a 2500...the manual shift transfer case ended up being a saving grace after the engine exploded to get it on the rollback. the electric shift transmission was nearly a fatal thing in my case.

maybe if it was a laramie i would have liked it but it was one of the most uncomfortable trucks i have had to use. but most base work trucks are not too comfortable.

we have so many issues with these trucks i have no idea why they are not sending them back and telling them to get fawked.

they just die driving down the road...or the screens go out driving so there is no data......starters wont crank and all sorts of weird shit. windows will randomly roll down...get stuck or wont work at all. .... locks get twitchy ...you never know whether you can get in or not...there is an after though fuse inline for the u connect deal that starts all kinds of problems.

when you cant get your crews to work with brand new trucks....what is the point of having brand new trucks.???

so...this causes friction in the field as well amongst the crews.

i was looking forward to keeping the ford for 250-300 k but they just keep making me take new trucks. i have alot of tools so changing trucks is very unpleasant.

I don't know if any of you guys watch Ivan from Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics on Youtube but he had a few videos over the 4th that got me thinking about the old wisdom that you need 4 things to make an engine run, air, fuel, compression and spark. Now, you also need 5 computers to agree they want the engine to run.

Any 19+ 1500 Rams in the fleet?

We had a lot of problems with dust intrusion. Like a schoolteacher that lives on gravel can fill the sunglass holder in a couple weeks.

2500+ still use the older cab and had no issues...

One of the managers at the sites I support was just telling me about his 2025 Silverado. It's been in the shop 3x for engine issues, oil pressure, various lights on the dash. He's going the lemon-law route.

His truck has the 5.3, not the well-known problematic 6.2 that they are trying to fix with 0W40 oil.

I can tell you've taken a 4.0 SOHC apart before. Rube Goldberg is a German name....

The 5.3 has been eating lifters for quite some time as well.

I saw a blurb a few months ago about the decendents of Walter P. Chrysler wanting to buy the company back, you know, Make Chrysler Great Again, but I haven't heard anything else about it.

Chrysler kinda got left in the lurch, like the only vehicle they have is the Pacifica

My father in law just had his 2013 Silverado in for a low oil pressure issue and it was some stupid little O ring that you have to remove the oil pan to get to.

From what I read, Stellantis told them to get bent and that was pretty much the end of it. Now there are rumors that some Chinese company was wanting to buy the Chrysler brand. Great.

I don't know that it would have helped anyway - Chrysler has been a debacle for many years. I think if they hadn't bought AMC and then dumped money into Jeep, they would have been out of business by the late 90's. They were getting "worst car ever" awards in the 60's. My dad worked for the forest service in the 70's and said they were getting brand new trucks with parts spray painted "defective." Lots of junk across all brands in the 80's... Jeep saved them.
