New tools you've bought recently?

Man… I would love that big compressor. Screw compressors are way better than piston. When I worked maintenance for a newspaper they had 4 big screw compressors. The one got put in while I worked there and it was a huge Ingersol Rand, like 7’ tall, 4’ wide and 8’ long. That thing at full load could run the whole place. There were three smaller screw compressors that could barely run the place. That place used a ridiculous amount of air, everything was air operated.

I bought a whole crap ton of hand tools on Marketplace on Monday. The seller was an older lady who said her husband retired as a mechanic and was selling off his tools. She offered me the lot for $150 and I countered at $100 and left all the power tools and a couple boxes of stuff I didn't want. Main thing I wanted out of the lot was a handful of Snap-on screwdrivers and extensions, some specialty engine assembly tools, a handful of large wrenches, 3/4" impact socket set, a nice come-a-long, and a few other things I'm forgetting.

This is what I didn't want, I added a few things to the pile and am going to resell it and break even. Another weird lot, maybe this was just his "extra" tools, but a lot of mixed up weird junk and no full sets of anything.

determined I'll have to obtain a narrower blade for the finger brake.
the blade will need to rotate up into the channel when I replicate this piece.

I hope the lower section will clear. I'm kinda still learning this.

if I widen the center about an inch it can be inserted up-side-down but will still need some trial 'n error.

Use some 1" strips to try different bend orders. Tho I can't think of one that will work for you. My brake is made for aluminum sheet used for cladding, and it sticks out 3/4", but 10.5' long.

Tell me why you can't cut down the stick out that's in your way? I modify tools all the time.

I could, but I'd rather get another piece of angle and trim it to fit.
it's only a piece of 2" angle, precision ground to probably +/- .002 at best. 7 bolt holes.
I should be able to trim down another one.
good excuse for another trip to the steel store. :icon_thumby:

that black piece is a NOS under-bed support.

Put power to the scroll compressor. It runs!
For about 10-15 seconds, then shuts down. I'm thinking some sensor is shutting it. Amp draw is about 9 when it starts, and after about 5 seconds the scroll starts working and it climbs to 22 amps. Runs for about 5 seconds and shuts down. It can't build pressure as the outlet has no valve as yet. Maybe a bad sensor is shutting it down? Any other suggestions?

I was hoping that thing would be simpler than the ones at the newspaper. When those went down, if it wasn’t a fuse or filter, we called someone to come deal with them. I never got a chance to dig into one

How much metal is behind the fingers? Can you do both the outer bends first then the inner bends? would gooseneck fingers help?

for an exact duplication I have 2 hangups.
1. after the outers are bent the piece needs flipped over. the fixed blade is only 1/2 tall, I want 3/4 so a shim will be needed on top of the fixed blade.
2. the first inner will be ok, the second will contact the fingers well before 90 degrees, with the 2" center. if the center is widened to 3" I can get a full 90 bend.
or,, those goosenecks.
or,, a substitute clamping plate instead of fingers.

it will probably work with narrower 1/2 wings and a wider 3" center. but who wants to do it the easy way. :icon_thumby:

lemme go see what's in the shed.

My ex’s uncle has a bender with a magnetic hold-down bar that would be perfect for this, except not wide enough to do the length you need. You would have to make 2 shorter pieces.

Followed the advice on a different forum and put some oil down the intake of the compressor. It fired up and was trying to build pressure, but I could hear a major leak from down below. There was no drain valve in place...
It took me several hours of searching for the pieces I know I have, before I broke down and bought some more. Its running great! I'll let out all the air and then time it to full. I don't have the ampacity to run it at home so it will go up for sale or trade for a bike or car plus cash.

Not as exciting as most but I was over the week and needed to get away at lunch so me and a coworker went to HFT... We both ended up with the little Icon ratchet set thing that takes 1/4" hex bits since it's on sale... I've heard good things and it looks nifty, no immediate uses for it lined up but I could see it being useful. Other than that I only talked myself into a ground clamp for my Titanium 125 welder and a box of gloves...

I have one of those little ratchets but made by Wiha. It's nicer then I thought. I mostly bought it because it came with a box of various bits.

The only thing I really found it to be useful for is for getting Phillips head screws that block by something to the point you can't even really get a stubby in there. Like curtain rod holders.
Also if you have hex bits for it, you now have a ratcheting allen Wrench.
