Is this a 7.5 or 8.8?

Unless it is some special fleet order thing the only way to get a 8.8 was with the 4.0. Being in a fleet who knows what was scavenged to keep the fleet going. Axle could have easily been robbed from a sister ship. For giggles what is your axle code? Easy way to tell them apart, 8.8 is more rounded and the 7.5 cover is more squished, they do not interchange.

on an 8.8, the distance between the top and bottom bolts centerline is 9-7/8" or 250mm

I say 8.8 because of the two notches on the bottom of the housing at the 5 and 7 o'clock positions

Like the gasket has, though the gasket picture is upside down

The picture in the first post is definitely a 7.5. Don't know what you're seeing that tells you it's a 8.8. The door sticker only tells you what ratio it has and whether it's locking or not.

Axle codes on the door sticker correlate to specific rear axle, gear ratio, open or limited slip, and weight rating

I can’t find anything about a Dana 0??
I think he's pulling your leg. It's a 7.5- 7.5's are flat on top and bottom with curved sides like your cover, 8.8's look like a square with the corners rounded off.

What throws me off in that picture is that the cover appears to be a smooth round dome, whereas the 7.5 and 8.8 both have more distinct bulges where the ring gear protrudes. Might be an aftermarket cover.

I figured it out I think. It is indeed a 7.5. Vin on the door is different than on the dash so door must have been pulled. Also know anyone who makes pre runner style front bumpers for 91 ford ranger?
