What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

looked at it while thinking I need to clean it up and drive it...

AJ

Used the 04 ranger to jump start the 02 wrangler. And drove them both around a bit since they dont get driven much anymore.

Used the 24 to pick up some 23 tremor wheels and tires for my son's white 24 ranger. The rims are black so i figure they go better with his truck.

I am putting a 2.5 level kit on my father in law's truck this week since he got new larger wheels and tires on the 25 ranger he bought thursday or friday. He got an xlt so i am getting his brand new stock rims and tires for my truck since his and my truck are the same color and the xlt wheels are a little different then the xl.

They are 18s and a little wider then my stock wheels.

‘23 Tremor wheels are Magnetic grey, not black.

Nada. Plan was to take a break from the F-250 while waiting on parts and install a new DTRS on the Ranger.

Transmission shifts into proper gear, but truck doesn't seem to understand what gear its in some times. Like not engaging the backup lights, or setting engine idle speeds right for being in gear instead of park/neutral. Being lowered from stock there isn't enough room under the frame to do it with the truck flat on the ground, and I haven't taken the time to lift it up or to set-up and put it on ramps.

Instead I've been sitting in the house nursing sever sinus/allergy issues.

I've been doing that for 3 days.

I never had issues with allergies until 8 or 10 years ago. Just seems to get worse every year too.

I just googled them and thats what google showed. Either way, they fit

Put about 800 miles on the truck in the last 8 days. AC still blows cold, got a strange vibration emitting through the chassis at freeway speeds that comes and goes. quick search shows its common and sometimes hard to remedy. My first guess is the wheels need to be road force balanced. U-joints are new (Moog), Trans mount new...So who knows.

Have the driveshaft balanced at a good shop. Made a major difference in my truck.

Would a driveshaft out of balance vibrate randomly? I can drive at 65mph one day and have vibration and then the next day at the same speed have nothing. I always thought if a wheel or driveshaft was out of balance it would vibrate regardless at the same speeds.

Luckily for me there's a reputable driveline shop a few miles from my work.

for a short while, I had a come and go vibration in my 87 (4WD, 2.9, short cab, short bed, five speed). Every time I got underneath, and I checked all the U joints and such I couldn’t find anything.

I have a pretty steep driveway up to the street, and after about a month of this, I popped the clutch hard to try to jump in traffic, and the driveshaft came apart. It was rusting out from the inside out, and just finally let go.

I got it repaired for about $90, put the rebuilt one in, no more vibration.

Having said that, I don’t really know how you could check it unless you took it to a shop. But someone else might know how.

That's a new one. Never heard of a driveshaft rusting in 2 from the inside out...

Yes. That's what mine did. My u joins were good but the shaft was out.

Pin hole in one of the yoke welds can cause it. The water can get in but cant's get back out. Also, the older style two piece driveshaft with the center slip yoke was bad to rust internally by way of the grease zerk, and the center hole going to deep, allowing water to flow into the shaft it if wasn't kept greased properly.
