What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Im 52 years old and have had "illegal" tint in Kansas for the last 30 years (almost always the 2 side windows require 20% to match the rear and back glass). Never once got a ticket for it. Legal in Kansas is 35% on driver and passenger side windows. I just figured someone here had it matched % wise in the past, but I guess not. I'll just ask my guy I use to match it up.
Last 3 trucks have had 20% on the driver and passenger side windows. My experience is don't drive like an asshat and you'll be fine.

RickW's caution is a good one. Each state is different and in some, the rules for trucks and SUVs is different than cars, usually more permissible.

As far as enforcement, that is going to be all over the place and dependent on municipality policy and how much of a crusader/jerk/etc the individual officer is.

Where I am in Kansas, I literally have never heard of anyone getting a tint ticket. Sure it's possible and happens, I just don't give them a reason to pull me over. I wasn't asking about legality.....not sure how my question turned into that aspect......

It comes up due to potential liability to the forum and it's owner. What the member decides to do on their own is up to them but from a liability aspect, the legality has to be brought up. In today's sue happy society, it is an unfortunate necessity.

Probably so, thats why I vote red across the board. I like my freedoms or at least a perception that we still have freedoms......

I like my freedom, also. But many people fail to remember that rights and freedoms come with responsibilities. In the case of window tinting, somebody exercising their freedom to black out their windows, neglects their responsibility to be able to see other people and objects clearly to avoid accidents. It’s a safety issue that negatively impacts other people. We have a responsibility to not hurt others as we exercise our freedoms.

As opposed to helmet laws for motorcyclists. If someone is dumb enough to ride without a helmet and they get in an accident, the lack of helmet only hurts the rider. So, go ahead. Exercise your freedom to not wear a helmet.

Just my opinion. But here in the forum, as Gump mentioned, we must err on the side of supporting the law. We don’t create the law. But we can’t with good conscience condone breaking the law.

I didn’t mean to stir up the pot so much, but this is a self correcting problem. Wait ‘til you get my age, and you can’t see out the door with the window open, the tint’s gotta go!

My point was I know the law well enough at 52 years old. We all break the law, 1mph over the speed limit is breaking the law. A little tire spin at a stop light is "excessive" and can make a irritated cop, well, not too happy. I got my answer, so carry on.

Be cool. You must be new. It’s all of our jobs to belabor every post to the point of insanity. We’re just getting warmed up on this one.

LOL, well that's obvious......... I dropped my spare today because its 24 years old, not real confident in it, so Discount Tire is installing a new tire tomorrow (matching the set I had installed a couple weeks ago) and then they are doing an alignment after all the front end I just performed.

SC has tint laws. My car from the factory is darker than the law allows here. The tint is in the glass on my car, not a film applied over the glass. Never known anyone to get a ticket for tint that was doing something stupid, anywhere.
