Twin Turbo set up

Anyone have any advice on a transmission? I heard someone say a C4 transmission would bolt up to a sohc, but I don't know much about the older trans.

Couple thoughts.. are you ready to cross this bridge yet? As in.. figured out the whole turbo situation already? This is one of those 'first things first' type deals.

How much power you're planning on making and overall usage of the truck is gonna determine what the best course of action is concerning the tranny..

I'm not there yet but I know for certain I'm shooting for more power than I want to push through a 5R55. I'm trying to get the whole thing planned out so I have a direction when I get ready for it. I don't want to have a built motor and then be stuck unable to use it because I don't have a transmission that can handle it or will fit with it.

How much power? The mustang crowd has pretty well figured out that a stock bottom 4.0 will pop before a 5r55.. apparently the bottom end will hold together up to around 400 with a quality tune.. not bad..

So if you're setting up for more than 400hp.. looking at the big bucks. Over 5k for just motor stuff.. probably at least another 3 for a trans you can have complete confidence in.. might as well budget for 10k at least..

She'd rip though, hell yeah.

Thats 100% my plan. I. Already prepared for this to be at least a 13k build. The block and heads/cams I'm looking at puts me at about 8-9k alone. I'm all in on this project and want to push it to the absolute limit.

That's the attitude.

4-5k should definitely be more than enough to cover your drivetrain upgrades then.. the world's your oyster when it comes to what trans to use at that point.

Getting a built 5r would probably be the easiest.. 100% plug and play obviously.

A C4 will work with some additional parts hunting according to the tech library.

If you wanna row your own gears a t5 would work apparently..

You could pretty much fit any transmission you want with an adapter setup.. a 10r80 would be cool.. a stock one would likely handle whatever you wanna throw at it and with 10 gears it'd keep you right in the power..

Or go the other way and fit it with a powerglide.. those are neat..

I hadn't considered using a newer trans. The 10 speed might be pretty fun actually. The timing set I found is supposed to be good for 700+ but I don't know if those numbers are even achievable. Super six has a performance block and stage 3 heads as well as high lift cams so I think thay will be my platform for getting started.
