California on fire...

Everyone knows them because of the movie Major League.

i’m not being combative, just conversation, but I believe that one in the movie was actually a one-off made for the movie at a later date. If you look at the grill and the fender lines, they don’t match. The kit only fits on a 1973 super beetle, which I learned after I bought two VW’s that didn’t work. Fortunately, I profited from the sale of all.

I think the most famous original was the car that “the Raspberries “ used. They are a not so well known music group from back then.

When I found the kit in the junkyard, one of the double-light fenders was missing, so I just did mine with the existing fenders.

I remember selling the double light fender that I had, and somewhere I ended up with an extra grill which went with my car when I sold it. It was just a piece of fiberglass. I put the whole thing together as a joke, and my guy just painted my grill Silver.

One of the few I actually miss

Afterthought, I checked, and the movie Major league was made in 88/89. The Volkswagen kits were made about 74/75 to fit the 73 super beetle.

I have more first-hand knowledge of completely useless information than you can imagine

so that Volkswagen was from Hawaii?

I don’t know if I ever shared it, but this was one of my toys before my Ranger fetish.

73. Super beetle. A guy in New Jersey made the Rolls kit, and I use the 60s bumpers. Everybody’s seen one, but the guy only made 38 kits and then was sued by Rolls and had to crush his molds and his inventory. Only about 30 got out.

It was a fun little fart around car. The best part? It was a chick magnet. Women absolutely could not stay away from it. They’d step off the curb when I was at a stoplight. Big ones, little ones, young ones, old ones. Fun buggy.

I thought of it because I found the kit in a junkyard on a bug that was a dumpster fire.

now, maybe you can see where my Ranger inspiration started…

No, the blue color supposedly kept it from getting lasered. According to the "theory". Never mind that only the bottom sides are blue and the roof is white. Kinda kills the thinking of the "theory" but that is the "theory".

It did survive, a bit toasted on the down wind side, but still pretty remarkable.View attachment 122574

1 million years from now, when they’re digging up our bones and our pot and pans, they’re going to be driving a Volkswagen. The things are timeless.

small sticker, if scratched it had a raspberry smell. the fruit, not the singers. :icon_rofl:
fishy story bruh

the singers not the fruit

:woot:

sometimes i wonder.....if i am Candide.....or Dr Pangloss.

should have never left the cave.

This is some crazy shit. I hear about overgrown brush being a problem, the 117 million gallon reservoir in the middle of the palisades was closed for repairs, the LA fire chief said the city failed her. A lot of finger pointing going on. It's amazing that all of those multi-million dollar homes burned along the ocean front. Why don't we have spinkler systems that can use the oceans salt water?

It just seems crazy that in the world we live in today and with all the technolgy we have, LA isn't better prepared for a wild fire. I sute in the hell hope they learn from this.

We don't allow political rants, but I'm just going to say that between North Carolina and now this, I'd like to see my tax money spent here fixing this, not given to other countries.

For those that didn't know, @4x4junkie lives in the San Fernando Valley. The Hurst fire is probably the closest fire to him. Hopefully him and his family aren't affected.
I know he hasn't been on since Dec 15, but has anyone heard anything from/about @4x4junkie, just curious how he is doing?

Yeah I'm here guys...

All is fine & well... Appreciate you guys' concern.
The closest fire to me was about 6-8 miles (and downwind) from my location, so wasn't really affected by it (instead it was a bunch of downed tree branches in the yard and part of the garage roof that blew off I to contend with lol).

Like a lot of posts have already speculated, there certainly appears to have been some level of incompetence on the part of the county, city and fire officials (doubting there was much (if any) brush clearance enforcement going on for one, and of course the failures with the Santa Ynez reservoir). I foresee plenty of litigation happening over this lol.

The "therory" came from the Lahina (sp?) fire that was supposedly caused by laser fire from the Airborn Laser aircraft called the ABL (there was a 747 modified with a chemical laser to see how viable such a thing would be. Apparently, it was pretty successful). It was noticed that the houses in Hawaii that didn't burn all had blue roofs, or supposedly that was the case.

So, the blue VW didn't burn when the directed energy weapon (DEW) from the ABL was used to burn things down. Atleast that is the "theory".

The aircraft is a real aircraft and it disappeared from any kind of reports after the initial rounds of testing was completed. Not much was reported on how well it worked or anything but I imagine it would have been a mostly secret project in the beginning and if it worked really well, would have gone full secret. Conversely, if it had been a failure, they would have stopped testing. Either way, it disappeared from any kind of reporting.
I cant believe anyone would give that theory any credit. The govt isnt going to go and test that stuff on a major US city.

But to each their own i suppose.
