Ok, I'll try this out. Me and a few friends are getting together to go explore Prentice Cooper and the surrounding area. We already have a camp at a hip camp spot. We have about 6 going and room for a few more. The trip will be Dec 6th-8th. We will all meet at camp Friday afternoon. Then get up and explore all day Saturday then head home Sunday with maybe a few trails that morning. Mainly site seeing. There will be some opportunities to stretch your suspension but there are bypasses. We have a CRV in the group on 29s so we can't get too wide haha. If anyone wants to join let me know. I can send a link to the camp.

Those CR-Vs, at least the older ones (1997-2001), are surprisingly capable for an AWD, unibody frame, and open differentials. Articulation isn't for crap and you have to watch tweaking the frame but it is surprising where those little buggers can go.

I like the idea and timing could be made to work. It's finances and prior commitments at the moment.

There's a link to the campground. We should be easy to spot haha

Have fun and stay safe.

Posts like this make me realize that I have to get a camper. Either a bumper pull light enough to go behind the Ranger, or a slide-in that fits the F-250 with the Ranger (or whatever) pulled behind. Packing and camp setup/breakdown is a lot of what keeps me from doing this stuff. Distance doesn't help, but if I didn't have to spend the time packing and could make setup and tear down quick, I wouldn't mind it near as much. Camper would pretty much make it hook up and go for me.

I wanna do the Georgia Traverse again next spring. It will be a different camp every night but would love to have you along. If your interested I'll make sure and hit you up when we start planning.

They make some great compact offroad campers, these days.

They do indeed, if you have the cash to buy one. Granted, after my trailer rebuild project, there is a reason they charge so much.

...and that's the problem with them. I am solo and would most likely be paying out of pocket for what ever I get.

Closest I'll get to an offroad camper is putting a slide-in on the back of my 4x4 F-250, or lift blocks on a bumper pull for a little more clearance. For starters I'm not likely to buy new. New or used a standard camper runs about half the price of an equivalently sized offroad camper, and though the size is supposed to be equivalent the offroad campers seem to have less room.

Nah, I'll stick top a slide in, or a 16ish foot bumper pull. Like mentioned with the slide in on the F-250, I can have something else on the trailer behind it. Many of the smaller 15-18 foot bumper pulls are light enough to tow behind a Ranger, or I could hook it up behind the F-250 with an ATV in the bed.

Really I could use the slide-in style with just the Ranger too. I've got a ~7x14 flat bed trailer. I could mount the camper on the trailer, have room in front or behind for an ATV or Motrorcycle, and still be light enough to pull with the V8 swapped Ranger. It would look funny, but I've seen similar rigs done enough times for a crawler hauler.

Just wanted to hit this again. We will be making camp Friday if anyone would like to join we still have 3 or 4 spots available to camp. Everyone is welcome ro meet and ride Saturday at Prentice Cooper if you don't wanna camp

I'll not be coming. Can't afford the gas to get there right now.

Well it was a good trip. Out of 9 scheduled to show up, only 4 showed. That being said, the 4 that did show up had rigs built for hader trails. Sonwe did get to find some fun wheeling. The weather was cold. Many didn't want to camp with lows in the teens. It was 16°F Saturday morning. Just a tad bit chilly. Veiws were amazing though.

Awesome pictures. Hope you had your canine sleeping bag warmer with you.

No unfortunately I was completely solo haha. I couldn't get no one here to be crazy enough to camp in that weather but me haha. We just knew Prentice Cooper closes on the 20th. So we wanted to get out there before it did. Kyle has never been and wanted to see the overlooks and hit Haley's Rd.
