bent axles?

Pulled the strut on the driver's side and one of the shoes slid further back while the other one is sitting out still. Do they need to be all the way against the backing plate?

They need to be fully seated on the anchor pin.

That looks like the shoe slide off the perches on the backing plate

One thing to note, is that when I tested the cable I was only able to test the part from the frame to the pedal, that part moves, can it be that the cables from the frame connector to the wheels are frozen?

Yes...

But if you remove the strut... it wouldn't matter.

Not to sounds like a complete idiot, but how would I go ensuring that the shoes sit fully on the anchor pin? Do I need to do that before I attach the top springs?

The spring tension will pull the shoes to the pin. Ensure the shoes aren't hung up on the backing plate and resting on their perches.

Another thing to consider....

How grooved up are your backing plates?

The shoes wear into the backing plate due to the metal to metal contact. That's why those perches get a small dab of lube.

I always take a die grinder with a scotch Brite pad and clean those perches up before assembly.

@Uncle Gump I pulled all the springs and strut off along with the self-adjuster to start over with a clean slate, is this what the end result should be as far as placement?

Exactly like that...

So now that those are in proper position without the springs and park brake strut, should I go ahead and replace the parking brake cables? Or try and re-assemble everything and see if it fits right?

I remember it was really hard for me to keep them in place once the strut went in.

I see another point of concern from that last picture...

Take a pair of channel locks and squeeze that horseshoe clip closed on the park brake lever pin.

It looks like it could fall off.

I would just assemble everything... ensure the drums slide on nice.

That strut can be replaced easy enough when you get cables.

So replace the springs but not put the strut on? Sorry for this being tedious...

Yeah... just put it all together minus the struts.
