What did YOU do today?

Spent most the day lounging around enjoying the snow day. Had to get out and pull a Nissan Titan out of a sketchy situation. He was heading up to work on a cell phone tower and slid off the road at the top. When I pulled up to assess the situation. I slid about 25ft backwards into the ditch. So had to get us both back up on the road and turned around and back down the hill. Pretty sketchy but both down safely.

made a sheild at work today, my core machine has a worn sand gate, every time it opens material goes out and into the front of the blowhead, then falls off onto the lid, then the gradual buildup leads to a blowout between the blowhead & lid. Yes the obvious “fix” is a new sliding sand door & support rails, but this will get me to the weekend when maintenance can spend the 3-ish hours to fix it right.

I’m a junkie.

One of the things on my wish list for a couple years is a new set of magnetic tow lights. I’m not saying my old set were bad, but I was worried about getting a ticket for using them instead of not having them. Harbor freight had the best price at $32 plus tax.

Craigslist: “Box of trailer parts:”

IMG_1011.jpeg

$20 for:

Magnetic tow light kit red/amber, plus:

Trailer light kit (old larger lights)
3 marker lights
Brake Control harness
License plate bracket (old heavy)
4 shortie 4 pin male/female harness
1 long 4 pin male/female harness
1 longer truck side harness
1 longer trailer side harness
1 shortie short trailer harness
1 4 pin cap
1 4 pin round outlet

I also went on eBay and ordered some 3/16 copper tubing, brake line, a few tees, and a few elbows to run the gas to the smokestacks for the ‘Raith (which I haven’t started yet).

Edit: 3 miles away

Score!

Messed with the vacuum leak on the Ranger for a little while. Spent most of my day tryin to help out one of our new members with A/C brackets. Turns out my 2.9 has dealer installed A/C which has different bracket and compressor. I have one for a 2.8 but it’s different than the 2.9. Really wanted to help him out. He posted again here this evening. Hope he gets hooked up.

At work today I got voted to fix the pipes that broke over the weekends cold spell... went the easy way and cut out the bad chunks of copper and put in PEX with shark bite type fittings.

The first main issue was over one of the overhead doors maybe 16' up? It was a 6' run of 3/4" copper with 5 bulges, next chunk was a ~3' chunk of 1/2" copper with 2 bulges, last was 1/2" too but just had one. First time around on the 3/4" I missed one of the holes so had to go up in the man basket again, where they had the forklift before I must have felt about 3" from the last bulge... oops, at least we got two of the 10' chunks of PEX...

Daycare had a pipe freeze last weekend, so our little guy has been staying with my inlaws in Omaha all week since my FIL is retired.

It has been a very painfully long week... :bawling:

Ive got a couple of magnet tow light sets, the L E D set is the better of the two. When the ranger trailer gets took out on the road thats what I use. I did have the original truck bed lights hooked up but one side (forget which) never would stay working right, was easier to stick the magnet lights on & go rather than mess with it.

Well.... not today but Monday...
it was -6 degrees out and the first thing I did after getting up and dressed was start the buick because it was -6 degrees out. car sounded awful, like one of the accessories was chewing up a bearing. it was running so I let it run and got david ready. so we go out the door and the car has turned off due to the 10 min timer on the remote start. get in put the key in to start it, and nothing. no click just nothing.

so I think my alternator went buh bye. car is dead in the driveway. lights work but nothing in the odometer window, no click no noise when turning the key, just nothing.

took David to school in the escape. got him some Chik fil a, and have not seen the debit card since... need to really search that out...came back logged into work and that was a crapshow of a whole different level, fought all sorts of issues, and have determined that the department that approves vendors for our company needs to be cleansed with a flamethrower and a few of our vendors need to be eradicated, but I digress...

so at 1130 in the middle of the work crapshow, David called and said that he forgot his lunch

The wife went out to lunch with a friend so I had to get the Ranger out from in front of the Buick. let the Buick roll back to the end of the drive and maneuver the truck around the Buick and promptly took out the driver side headlight on the Buick. I mean it was smashed. rear corner of the Ranger bumper tagged it dead center

took David his lunch, went to the storage shed in Anderson 40 minutes away and got the battery charger and yanked the battery out of the Buick to put it in the garage so it wouldn't freeze in the sub zero weather put the battery on the charger and it charged fairly quickly, so I am wondering if the alternator did something to disable the ignition to save the car.... will dig deeper.

In the meantime, I took the battery to Autozone. it tested good. they said they cannot test the alternator on my car because it is controlled by the car's pcm instead of on the alternator itself. so that leads me to think that I am correct in thinking the pcm disabled the car to keep it from getting damaged by a bad alternator. Posted on the Buick forums, we will see what goes from there.. and I noticed that the idler pulley was the noise culprit, alternator turns freely. so add a new idler to the parts pile...

So now, No one in the Indianapolis area has a used alternator for this effing car. pure unobtainium. a new/ reman costs anywhere from 200 to 400 bucks. no rebuild kits available. Rockauto can send me the bargain-i-have-never-heard-of-brand alternator for 188 bucks and with a 30 dollar core I got it for 150... but, not sure I want to dump 150 on a no name alternator either. both pull a part yards in Indy do not have any 2009-2011 Lucernes in the yard... well one does, but the alternator was obliterated in the crash that put the Lucerne into the junkyard in the first place... so no go there. Car Part website shows several in Richland IN on the OH border with a call for price. called for price. those cars are not even processed yet and they are backlogged on processing cars.... so why the hell do you have them listed?!?

so pretty much anything I have touched this week has turned to crap...

How is y'alls day been going? Hopefully better than mine.

AJ

Our little one has been at my mom's all week. But they closed the clinic the wife works at so I headed out in the snow last night and grabbed her and brought her home. Just wasn't the same with her not being here. I probably wanna take her back tonight hahaha

We had weather last night, Amanda has to work tonight and tomorrow morning. Hoping to make a run up to get him and get some supplies tomorrow afternoon. It can't get here soon enough.

Lost without your little buddy. How do you think I feel? I haven’t seen him since September!

Bought another escape, this will be my “work commuter”. a ‘09 4cyl/fwd. new tires, 155K. paint code is T9 “montery mettalic”. still not sure what to call it. Its a blueish gray or a grayish blue to me. Our ‘11 awd is a metallic charcoal grey, doesn’t seem much different. I should put the same accessories on it, “twins” lol

Not really "sad" with the wife's ovarian cancer - once the "silent killer." Just grateful. She was diagnosed in mid 2020 and actually doing well with this latest chemo cocktail. Unfortunately ovarian cancer never really goes away but some women have gone on some 20 years with it. There has been great progress with chemo and now immunological cancer therapy.

But again, make sure your women know the signs of ovarian cancer. Most women are not diagnosed until stage 4 as they (and their docs) do not know the warning signs.
