What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

i know you know....i was just throwing it out there for the ones that dont know.....ya know?

i love your rig.....

i have been thinking of going to sliders on my front axle for ten years..and have seen where the caltracs just plain work out back....really slick......and that is why i am NOT surprised you have not moved that monster to links....

though links could really help.

Not today but a couple days back I got too close to a retaining wall and dented the right bed side a little and cracked the tail light on the 2011. I can get a tail light cheap enough and I think I can push out the bed side with the body hammers and bucking bars I have. I've managed to go about 13 years without any real, self inflicted vehicle damage. So I can't complain much. I'll order up a tail light and worry about the panel dent when the weather gets warmer. I might try that upside down air duster dent repair trick first before I start banging on it and see how that goes.

Well dropped the 94 off Wednesday for a thermostat and electric fan work. And what do you think happened as they pulled it into the bay?... the head gaskets went and quite impressively by the way🤷‍♂️

My green Ranger ate a newer F-150 today. Guy was trying to be a jerk running under the speed limit and when I had some open 4-lane road, I was gone. He tried, but that only lasted long enough to hit some bends. I’m built for that now. Gone.

Damn starter wire was loose....on the bronco....lil bob was stalled out at the light and a neighbor cranked it for him while he was doing the starter tap with a torque wrench....seen Sparks and pushed the wire over till it started.

Must of been a lock washer that rotted off I am guessing....as it tightened up. Apparently I did not execute the order for the rear diff....been trying to get tracking info on it.....bah....pisser.

I'll get there someday. 🤞&

I still have to address some issues which will improve performance, but that was still encouraging to know that it’s got issues and it still eats another truck. I’m pretty happy with it, it was a ridiculous amount of work, but worth it

I'm changing out the power steering fluid the way. Pulling it out with a turkey baster, filling the reservoir with new fluid, drive around a bit and repeat. It normally takes three quarts to fill all the way. I'll hazard that I use maybe four or five to everything cleaned out.

another method is to divert the reservoir return to a bucket, plug the hole.
then pour new fluid into the reservoir while turning the wheels lock to lock.,

put the wheels on something slippery, and be prepared to pour lots of fluid fast. use a big bucket.
that will completely flush the system while under load.

I'm about to replace the Strangler with something Chevy. I'm not a Ford fanatic, but some how I end up with them. Oh, because they're cheap and break down a lot.

If you are replacing it with the same price level GM... It will be cheap and break down a lot.

People tend to hang on to things that don't break down a lot .... Make sure it is not 3.6 powered.

What has worked for me is to use one of those plastic hand pumps one uses to fill kerosene heaters and other equipment. It gets the majority of the fluid out of the reservoir.

As far as the fluid change, I figure the fluid doesn't see the stress that it does in the transmission. So just changing the fluid in the reservoir every three years, like I do with the brake system flush is good enough. At least it sèms to have worked so far.

I'm going to agree with Bobby here. If you are sticking to the same price point as you have been with the Fords, the only thing that is going to change is the badge on the front of the vehicle.

Also, it is going to greatly depend on who you are buying the vehicle from. If they only fix things when the vehicle isn't driveable or won't pass inspection, you are going to be doing a lot more work than on a vehicle that gets preventative maintenance done on it. If they provide receipts and/or maintenance records, even better.

Unfortunately, most people fall in the earlier category and think it is a "badge of honor" that they have "only had to change the oil".

drove the '90 to town to get diesel for the shop heater (need to dry that camper out, and it's cold...) and at the gas station the thing wouldn't start up again! started right up at home 20 minutes before that... From the looks of it it decided that then and there was the time to tell me the random battery post clamp I grabbed a week prior and drove almost 200 miles with was slightly corroded... of course the tool situation is scarce in it right now, there were two 12mm wrenches in the drivers side door and one combo 12mm and 14mm and a flat blade screwdriver... so put the 14mm and jammed the screwdriver in and it was enough to get it loose... scraped the clamp with the screwdriver as well as the post and put it back together, works fine for now... will address better when it's not below freezing...

I swore at mine a little bit... after I broke the icicles off my mustache.
