What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

$35 for all. I’m starting an “extras” pile that I’ll sell once I’m sure I have everything I need for my hair brained schemes. I’m sure I’ll get everything I need and run a net profit. I think it’s the only way I could justify screwing around with stuff like this.

I think I sense a road train coming in Rick's future...

We probably shouldn't give him any more ideas...

Another Facebook score:

I found a 185/65/14 tire that was probably 80% new for $15, 15 miles away.

So I got that, and I pulled two of my 14 inch steelie rims with crap tires out of the pile, and another no-name steel rim that had a very good 195/70/14 tire on it.

I went to a tire guy who operates out of a little shack behind an old Shoney’s, and he swapped them all around and balanced them for 35 bucks.

So now I have three good 185s & one 195 on my steelies for the upcoming Road ‘Raith project, so now I just need a spare. And a little icing on the cake, that netted me one less tire in my tire pile.

I dropped the extra rim and the bad tires in my buddies dumpster. Not bad for an hour and a half riding around with Lincoln in the missing Linc.

I just registered for the 2024 Carlisle Truck Nationals. 20% discount if you register by 5 PM, January 2 Eastern time.

I registered the new and improving Road Ranger, and, God willing, I’m going to have the ‘Raith (which is still a dream in my mind right now) on top of the Road Ranger. The casket is one giant beer cooler, but I plan on dividing that, and I’m planning on adding a gas grill. Probably won’t be your typical gas grill. If TRS wants to provide me with a couple of banners, I’m happy to hang them off each side.

I paid for two spots, and listed The Ranger Station as my club. So that is two for our tent total.

I registered for the judging field, category 910, which is weird crap. Too early to be exact, but I’m thinking I’m going to go up and be there Thursday/Friday with you guys, Saturday on the show field, and Sunday back with you guys.

EDIT: come to think of it, if I don’t divide the casket, I might camp out with you guys

How comfortable is that thing? And, is there a way to prevent someone from locking you inside?

Just curious.

Right now it’s a big galvanized steel tub. Coca-Cola gutted it, insulated it really well including the lid, and put a drain in it. It’s probably bigger than one of your camper cots.

The lids lock with a 3/8 inch Allen wrench. The Allen thing is inside a little tube on one corner of the lid of the casket. I was thinking of drilling a hole through the tube sideways, so nobody could get an Allen wrench in there without the key. Then I thought about it, how many people know that’s the way you lock a casket lid?

I registered because I work better with a deadline, and also to maybe motivate other guys to think about it, and to come join us.

When are you going to organize an event in the southeast? I thought of maybe just piggybacking on one of the “caffeine and octane” gatherings, but making a couple days out of it.

The new to me Ranger had a bad locking hub. Retainer ring came off and wouldn't keep the spring back in free. Swapped to another set from barn stock. Removed the dash to replace the backlights. All of them were blown. Wish I’d read about the odometer motor gear first. It works when it wants.

Walked out of a grocery store today to find a witness waiting for me. My Ranger had been hit and run by an elderly woman who backed into it. The witness recorded the truck, driver's picture, and license plate, but there's a huge catch: the truck (20–year-old Ram crew cab) had a "Farm Use" plate instead of a standard plate. Finding that truck and driver will be nearly impossible.

The police arrived, but said because the incident was on private property, all they could do was get the witness's pictures forwarded to them. I got back home and told my insurance what happened. Will probably be out $200 to get the Ranger fixed. Needs a new grille and repair to the upper front bumper cover, but luckily that's it.

Don't know why farm-use tags are still legal. With all the license-plate tracking cameras around today, having those tags seems like a huge loophole for getting away with stuff.

If you find her, do you think you can get lucky?

Don’t underestimate elderly women when you’re on social security. Maybe she was just teasing you

Who was it, franklin, said older women awesome

So, in Va, farm use tags are a free pass to get away with stuff? Weird.

Here, it just denotes a different usage for tax purposes. It’s still a unique tag to that vehicle for identification purposes.
