What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Spent some time trying to get the IAC correct.
The original connector pushed the wires heavily into the heater box. I had originally flipped the valve 180 but it didn’t work correctly. The valve was bypassing and it was idealist high.

I flipped the valve back around and replaced the oem connector with a couple of spade connectors. I only needed to gain about a 1/4”.

Giant PITA to get at the IAC without pulling the intake.

That lighting mod deletes the original side-marker light function. I wonder if anyone has modified the wiring with a double-filament bulb to have both the original side-marker light and a turn-signal repeater.

No it doesn’t.
If you use the original power wire for the marker light circuit, eliminate the original ground, and tap into the power wire for the turn signal as your “ground”, you’ll have both marker and blinker functions out of a single filament bulb. (May not work correctly with LED bulbs.)

Took the ole Strangler in to my friends shop yesterday for a rotate, balance, and front end alignment. They went over the front after I installed the new upper control arms last week. They said I got the alignment right on them. All they had to do was set the toe in. I'm not good. I'm just damned lucky.

The original discussion has disappeared. IDK.

We need some positive news. What did you do to your Ranger taday?
Machined a 7/8-14 nut for my steering gear box to hold the pitman arm - weekend goals consist of: installing clutch kit and master/slave to ZFS5, fill it with good ol Mercon V, finish rebuild assembly of BW1356 and fill it then mate both in driveline order and take it to driveshaft shop this coming week. 2024 is shaping up to be the year this Ranger hits the road.

I laughed out loud. Not all of my bargains work out exactly the way I think they will.

My $10 Pintel/lunette ring came in yesterday (plus $18 shipping). It’s huge, like you would use on a D9 bulldozer to pull the Titanic. I’m going to need a trailer just to bring it over to my trailer to see if it will fit!

I already figured out what I’ll use it for, but I’ll have to get a normal size one for my little trailer or the truck/trailer combination will sag in the middle.

with all of the holidays and personal drama, and brake issues on my Ranger I have let it sit and hold down the driveway for over 2 months. Had a bunch of junk (dishwasher that was only 5 years old that took a crap last month because I clearly didn't have enough stress in my life... Dryer motor that took a crap literally one week after the dishwasher took a crap because the dishwasher dying didn't add a proper amount of stress to my life...) two old rotor's from the Ranger, two old rotors from the Escape, 5 wheel bearing/ hub assemblies from three different cars over the past few years, a couple of gas grill grates, bent shepherds hook that was just plain ugly even if it wasn't bent, and a 300 pound cast iron sink that I changed out all needed to go to the scrap yard. easier to put that stuff in the back of the Ranger rather than the Escape. Also threw in a barrel of aluminum cans (about 30 pounds) and an old aluminum screen door hinge. took it all up north to the nearest metal recycler in Cicero. Ace Scrap metal. they also sell used parts off of cars that are scrapped just like Pull A Part, so yay, another parts source. Good half hour drive one way and varied driving conditions. Amazingly the brake light never came on. we will see how that lasts. Got 40 bucks for cleaning the garage....

By the way, Titebond is good stuff. But it won't hold that ring on the truck very well. You need Lincoln metal glue for that.

Ha ha, tight bond was to fix sweet peas chair in her den. Beautiful wing back she has had for 40 or 50 years, and when the hefty grandson sat on it, it turned into a beach chair immediately. All the dowels and sockets were worn out in the front. A relatively easy fix, and if you know sweet pea, getting it back was probably the best Christmas presents.

I take pride in getting it close. I never expect that I'm going to get it right. Thus, why I always take it in for alignment after I finish monkeying with something that can effect the alignment.

Never the less, good job! Getting it close means you paid attention to the details.

$35 for all. I’m starting an “extras” pile that I’ll sell once I’m sure I have everything I need for my hair brained schemes. I’m sure I’ll get everything I need and run a net profit. I think it’s the only way I could justify screwing around with stuff like this.

you know, that thought went through my head.... I chose to ignore the possibility....
