What did YOU do today?

Last edited:
Went and had dinner at the inlaws, when we got home the wife noticed we didn't have water... sometime this year since I did the well pump last winter I'd ordered a start capacitor for the motor controller since I noticed it had been leaking, conveniently that solved it! They're like $10, I should probably just stock one, it's the second one I've put in since '14...

Replaced the headlight bulb in Big Red today, one of the LED things with the blower. The one I had in lasted two years, but I don’t think I put 2000 miles on the truck…

I do like the bright white look instead of the old fashioned incandescent yellow white.

woo hoo
I hate, hate, hate the white lights so common now. A little out of adjustment and get blinded. Did I mention I hate them?

Relax, I don’t have any plans to drive in Canada.

I did venture out today with Lincoln and picked up three 3/8-18 x 10ft and three 1/2-12 x 10ft new galvanized threaded rods for $40. Not my best score, but I still love Craigslist, especially because I had to buy some of these anyway.

I may use one of the half inch pieces to beat my CB to death. Oh wait, it’s already dead.

Well, Tuesday I went to the Doobie Brithers/ Eagles concert in Lexington KY. Parts for the impending brake job came in while I was away.

BTW, the concert was great, probably the best one I have been to. Drugs and years have not been kind to Joe Walsh, but he can still rock.

Seems I'm having as good of a day as Rick on my home stuff... Went to harbor freight to get a couple things (not bad, got a free magnet tray, couple extension cord ends, pick set, tapered reamer deal and drill wire brushes) then got home and cleaned out the lunch box of junk from work (bolts they were throwing away) and put them away in the bolt bin, put one of the extension cord ends on then started fabbing up a part for my drill bit sharpener that was destroyed before I got it, we have the same sharpener at work apparently so I had a part to copy, welded some metal strapping to the guide deal and found the last time I welded I left the bottle on, pretty sure it lost 500psi which is annoying since it's a big tank... think it's been 2 weeks since I used it... still had 1000psi so not the end of the world. So, spent that 30 minutes or so screwing around then went to try the sharpener and needed to tweak that piece a little and it broke 3/8" away from where I welded, called it quits for the night... now to try to find a "locator" for a Black & Decker drill bit sharpener...

Realized a while ago that the welder gas was only on for a week, still not ideal, not sure how much gas I lost, I know shouldn't have been any but it's all HFT equipment other than tank :)

Fixed the pellet gun I realized had stripped threads last weekend over the week, 3mm helicoils aren't the easiest things to work with on shallow blind holes... better than it was at least, was able to take out some black walnuts this morning so it's working better than it was...

Went to the Commonwealth 4x4 meet and greet yesterday. Got to meet Bill and Deb from Coddiwopple Overland. There were only 2 Rangers there. Me and a guy Chris from Ohio. His rig was nice. I told him about TRS. Hopefully he will join. He did folllow on Instagram.

Hit the obstacle course they are in the process of building. Then left out on a trail ride through part of the DBBB. Always the little guy in these group rides but was still a blast. Ranger impressed the Toyota guys on how well it done. One place where the ruts were too deep for anyone under 35s so 2 of us had to winch because we bellied out on the ruts. Did smash my bull bar into some waterfall ledges. But climbed right up once I got my tires on it.

The group I rode with.

Went to church and did some research for upgrades to the 2011 and the utility trailer. Mostly power systems related for charging household batteries and electronic devices.

I’m looking at making a small solar system with a lifepo battery for the trailer, which has been something rolling around in the back of my brain pan for a while.

For the truck, it’s just something to enhance truck bed camping some.

Bigger plans and ideas are still in the works but will probably be quite some time in the future.

Must be a hell of a church if you do vehicle research there... Lol. I might even consider going to church if there was one like that here.

The church I go to doesn't offer that.

But our preacher is a motorcyclist and there's a small group that does rides together occasionally.
