Yup, that's right. Toyota is coming out with a brand new Spartan light weight truck for a rock bottom price. And why not?

It's high time that truck manufacturers face the music and fill a certain demand for a utility vehicle,, a simple courier, not a luxury family car, not an off-road rig, no power windows, no blue tooth, no luxury leather trim, just a thing that gets the job done.

The base model doesn't even come with a bed. That's an option, but so what? There's a certain special rugged charm to this new beast of burden that just can't be denied. https://www.roadandtrack.com/review...kup-truck-is-basic-transportation-perfection/

I'd love to have one, a basic beater just to slosh through the mud and the salt, Too bad though, it will not be coming to the USA any time soon. It's meant to fill a niche in the world market. No doubt it will.

Now that's cool.

As soon as I saw it, I thought the tires were way too small. And then I thought.... Wouldn't it be fun to modify one of these things? There would certainly be plenty of wiggle room left in my personal truck budget. Maybe customize it? Even bolt on a few nice parts?

I've always wanted a minitruck, like they have overseas. They're like a 4 wheeled scooter.

Maybe customize it?

Absolutely. I'd rock a bumper sticker on it with Steve Martin's picture, that says "Let's Get Small".

I wouldn't mind one of them. We had a Diahatsu at work for a while. Other that it didn't meet the needs for the shop, it was a fun little truck.

Are they going to be available in the US ?

No. Not yet anyway. Toyota will be supplying third world nations where these little trucks will sell like hot cakes. It makes sense. If these were sold stateside they would compete with the Tacoma and undermine their own sales.

Maybe we should get a group together and drive down to Mexico and buy a few.

BiL had one of those - drove it for couple weeks - was a little under powered even by the standards of the day.

Toyota can't being their $10k truck to 'merica - too many safety restrictions - skid control, backup camera, etc, etc. Not to mention, the chicken tax would add 25%.

Eh, I would rather spend $10k for a used truck that has such luxuries as a radio and maybe even cruise control.

I like the concept. But thats about it.

Its to small...IMO.

No dice on the "let's go to Mexico and import some" idea - they have changed the import laws and anything you import needs to have all the safety stuff added before they will release it from the port.

Everyone stopped marketing small utilitarian trucks to the United States because they just don't sell.

America's most bought vehicles are F series pickups and the silverados... we like our full size behemoth's.
