TRS Event TRS 2023 Fall Adventure - Land Between The Lakes

This old ice cream machine came from a time when men were men and everyone had some common sense.

That motor wouldn't take no for an answer and liked to pile up the ice and push it out of the bucket. It took constant tending to keep the ice in and zero doubt in my mind it would take a finger off if you weren't paying attention.

I think the ice spun because the plastic bucket is smooth. When I took over, near the end, I used my hand to keep it stationary so the inner bucket would slide past the ice and maybe transfer heat better. I don’t know. It worked. Old Faithful.

I like my hand crank version with the wood bucket. That’s what I grew up with. But we always asked dad to get an electric one like all the cool families had.

Maybe this event gave you the sense that these need more than 4 days. Some showed up early and others took the long way home. Others may have been to far away to get the time off to make the drive?

Reads like there was a lot to do and, while people liked spending time together, they also enjoyed splintering off and doing their own thing. Maybe a week's too long but something more than 3 days might be well received. As what happened with one, there's always the option to leave early. Just a thought.

An attempt was made to have something for everyone instead of it being a purely 4X4 event and to make it something the whole family would enjoy.

The event was actually four days. Just not everyone could get the Thursday off. The drive was pretty significant for most of the group. Thus why some seemed to meander their way home. And you can only drive so far with a toddler and not provide entertainment.

My drive was only 10 hours, which while long, is less than the drive others had to make.

With all the activities available at LBL, the trip could certainly be longer. Depending on how far in advance notice is given for the dates, one may be able to take the time off but every individual’s situation is different. If my girlfriend was to come along, for instance, she gets no vacation time. Any time she takes time off, she doesn’t get paid. So, that throws a bit of a wrench in things for me if she wants to come along.

As of January, I’ll have 240 hrs of vacation, 1072 hrs sick, and 24 hrs personal. I’m never worried about time off.

Yeah, I only get ten days, I burned three just in driving.

Wait a minute!!!

40hrs per week X 52 weeks = 2080 hrs per year.

You have 1336 hrs in the bank.
2080-1336 = 744hrs left to work
That's 93 days or 18 weeks and 3 days.

Or, if you work a few bad snowstorms, you could finish in late March or early April and be off for the rest of the year.

That's not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have more but we can only carry over 1 years worth of vacation and no personal time to the next calendar year. I have 24 hours of vacation and 20 hours of personal that’s use or lose this year.
I also donated a week of my sick time to one of the guys in Engineering while he was dealing with cancer.

That's the thing for me next year, vacation time. I get 3 weeks a year plus 3 personal days but I'm going to burn 2 weeks at once in April because the wife got a deal on an 11 day Caribbean cruise that was too good to pass up. We did 7 days this year and learned that the more you go, the better the deals they send you.
I can carry over 3 days a year to the next year and if I don't take any more time I'll be able to carry over 2.
I'm taking about 8 sick days later this year for getting a new knee in November, then plan on doing the same for the other knee next year.
Between the cruise, the Ford Nationals, and the Truck Nationals, I'll be tight next year.

Here's a video of TRS-3 coming out of the trail / forest road that @Robertmangrum.rm and I found in Land Between The Lakes. I get the tires off the ground.

Loosen up and articulate, Jim!

Cool video.

We, as a group may need to get more practice spotting for each other. Sometimes a spotter can see a better line. That was on the edge of being one of those times.

If anyone is interested, here's video from the forest road @Robertmangrum.rm and I found. It's 36-minutes long, but it gives you a video of what you could stumble across on a 'Forest Road'. The road isn't always a road.
