What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I finished the engine swap and finally drove for the first time in 2 months since breaking down on the way to Vegas; 700 miles from home.
Newer engine from a 2000 with only 166k. New Heads from Clearwater. New lifters, pushrods and gaskets from Professional Engine Rebuilders. Dual Friction Clutch from Centerforce.

P.S. you can see the old one on the right.

( insert man grunt here).

Lincoln and I took the Missing Linc and picked up a couple of 185/65/14 tires in great shape for free. I love craigslist. That’s the size I use on the Road Ranger trailer and the other 14 inch bullet hole wheels I’ve got for coming projects.

Guess what followed me home for $40?

I think I found my second axel for the other project. This little guy had brand new tires, still had the sticker on the tread, a brand, new, high-quality coupler, unfortunately, 1 7/8 inches, and I think the wood was from the mayflower, or maybe something from the Civil War.

I’ll flip it over in the next few days and make a decision on whether to clean it up and just sell it for a profit, or strip parts for the other projects.

When I was out in Kennesaw, I went looking around, drooling in the Northern Tool store ( like tractor supply). I looked at the trailer springs and hubs and such, and that was absolutely the deciding vote on picking up this little yellow monster. If I don’t use it out right, I’ve always done better with horse trading.

Medically, it was just in time. I was about to suffer withdrawal from not painting something with rustoleum…

I pulled the $40 trailer apart, and then I took the axle apart to check what size spindles. Then I pulled a hub off my other small axle, and was pleasantly surprised that both were a straight 1 inch spindles. That means all I have to do is get two 5 x 4.5 hubs and I’ll have a matching set for my bullet hole wheels.

And I think I mentioned I now have two 3500 pound axles with enough 5 x 4.5 hubs to set them both up. All I’m lacking is one pair of double eye springs, maybe two pair.

I say maybe because I still have no idea what I’m going to do with them. I do have a couple/three visions, but nothing solid yet. Mostly maintenance on the rest of the junk pile right now.

The real reason I’m posting tonight, not that it has anything to do with Rangers, is because tomorrow night on COMET is the last episode of Buffy followed by the first episode of Buffy. Truly historic. If you missed it before, you can catch all seven seasons starting tomorrow night.

Moral question: SMG is 46 now. She was in her 20s when they filmed the series. But the series character, Buffy, was supposed to be 16 when the series started. So if we watch it now, and we have “those thoughts,” is it still pedophilia? Asking for a friend

Might be adding one to the fleet. With traction beams

Those tires are not in great shape - they are cracked in the tread all the way around! I wouldn't put them on anything I take on the road. They are worth less than zero, because it will cost you money to dispose of them. The guy who gave them to you for free was the winner in that transaction, because you saved him the disposal fee.

Hmmmm, didn’t notice that. I wonder if I can get my money back!

@rubydist is right, jumped too fast on these, they gotta go

Two days ago I ordered the seal kit for the power steering pump so I can change the o-ring on the power valve that is leaking.

Plans are to do the rotors, top off the trany and do an oil change on the beer fetcher today. How much of that gets done depends on how the back feels. I'm not as fit as I once was.

I was feeling about the same but I surprised myself by removing and installing the FM145 trans in my brothers BII in 6 hours. Of course it was the second time in a week so everything had been removed recently but I’m still taking it as a win. 59 years young on my back on an old broken concrete floor. Just a floor jack and cribbing.
Good times. 😁

I ordered a Warn Zeon 12k winch and the “low profile” control pack relocation kit this morning.

The ARB differential cover I ordered for the 2011 was delivered yesterday. I still need to get a reusable gasket for it. Fall preventative maintenance happens soon for all three vehicles. So, I’m working on getting all the materials on hand for that.

Green Ranger went for inspection yesterday and passed. After I had to replace a core support body mount because somehow the bolt and bottom rubber fell out. Not sure how, I even added an extra nut, but it is what it is I guess.

Mechanic said he went to pull it in his shop and started it up and went, well that doesn’t sound right… revved it a bit and went, that really doesn’t sound right, I have to see what’s going on and popped the hood. His wife said she was waiting for him to pull it in and wondering what was taking him long so she looked out to see him under my hood and then was wondering what was wrong with my truck, lol. He was really impressed with it all.

Then there was a car cruise and I had intended on taking the Choptop, but finally decided to just run up in the Ranger and pop the hood. A lot of people didn’t notice why it deserved a place there, but those that did were impressed. Not too many sleepers around here anymore. The exhaust noise kinda gives it away, but right now it looks for all the world like an old farm beater or something.
