What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I didn't know about this thread. Ever since I bought my ranger a year ago it was mostly stock, 6 months in I did the lowering springs, wheels and tires, and full brake system replace. Now I'm adding the upper and lower control arms. This is the side I'm finished with. Fender liner is being coated with truck bed liner.

Yesterday, but swapped my 1 year old reman steering gear out for a 27 year old unit with far less play and more assist... I'll be getting a refund for the reman

Well, yesterday was a rain day here (I really need my garage up), but I’m gonna try getting some work done on the choptop today, hopefully the rain holds off long enough

I’m hoping to get some fluid changes done after work on the 2011 if the weather holds out. I bought a drain pan big enough to do the engine coolant without having to scramble for containers. 20 quart capacity should do the trick.

i had plans to do diff fluid change and some other stuff on some of the vehicles in the driveway but a heat index of 112 made me want to wait

You’ll be under truck, so in the shade. It will be cooler there. ;)

Managed to get a few bolts tightened up on the choptop then it started raining and that was about the end of that.

Had a rotten day. I went to loosen a body mount and the bolt just spun around with the nut. While I was under there I found why the truck drives funny...

This is stressful because I just bought a new car (which some on the forum might be interested in, post to come) and don't have it up to trustworty enough to daily yet.

Duct tape won’t work on that one. Probably need friction tape and a hose clamp.

The shed rebuild continues. I used The Missing Linc to go get six bundles of shingles to cover the additions. I got half of them put on. I’m way too old for that crap.

I mix my projects when I need similar tools and materials. If you remember, I just fixed the back steps. The bottom post and handrail on the stairs was always wobbly, so the new one is sunk into the ground, seems sturdy as a rock. But that wasn’t good enough for me, so when I brought the shingles back, I tried to knock it over with the driver-side rear view mirror. Turns out I did a pretty good job on the post.

As I was building The Missing Linc, both mirrors were worn out at the ball swivel. I set them in place with some five minute epoxy, because otherwise, they looked pretty good. So this time, I used JB Weld. The tubes that were in my shed of miracles were so old, I had to get at it by cutting the bottom of the tubes off with tin snips, and squeezed it out with pliers. It still worked like a champ. I bet you I’ve had that JB Weld for 25 years.

I’m going to stay away from the post from now on now that it’s tested.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is that in the picture?

If it's the black flag mirrors I've had success by grinding the aluminum that's swaged around the spring plate by the ball then drilling and tapping the posts for a machine screw (or even sheet metal screw but they loosen). I need to redo the one on my '90 since it's floppy by about 40mph at this point...

The rain has been holding up as well. It’s a mixed blessing. I threw my back out. So it needs to heal but I also have a whole list of fluid changes that need done on both trucks. Mother Nature is making me sit.
